Ron, We all see an advertisement for a half dozen oil products. Which one are you wanting an opinion about?

**Guarantee excludes severe service applications such as frequent towing and hauling, racing dirty conditions and extreme idling. If your vehicle is covered by a warranty, follow your car manufacturer's recommended oil change/service intervals, which can be found in your owner's manual.

Gotcha.... Also if you check the MSDS you will find that this nothing more than a "highly refined" base oil (80-85%). Me I am going to stick to my synthetic and have my oil tested by Blackstone Labs.

I don't understand
That just shows you how much I know or rather don't know about motor oil
This says it's full synthetic http://www.castroledgeusa.com/#/why-upgrade/results

There are only 2 maybe 3 full synthetic oils that I know of... Mobil 1 and Amzoil and maybe Redline. The rest are super refined dino oil with synthetic additives. The term "Full Synthetic" is a legal term used by companies even though what they are selling is not a true synthetic base stock.
I am testing Royal Purple and the rep I talked to even admits that it is NOT a "true" synthetic. I suspect that I will switch back to 10w30 Mobil 1 on all my vehicles at the next change.

OMEY look at Mobil Delvac 1. It is Mobil's industrial/commerical grade full synthetic with extended drain intervals.
I have used only Delvac 1 in both gas and diesel engines for 20+ years with extended drain intervals with excellent results.
Years ago Delvac was advertised as "The Million Mile Oil".

Yep... diesel version of Mobil 1. Mobil1 is Mobil 1 no matter how you label it.
As for the "The Million Mile Oil". Many truckers use a oil filter bypass system and get many many miles on the oil before change. Most of us RVers are lucky to put 5 to 10k a year on our rigs. Although the oil is good the the acid level is high. Well, that's what my oil analysis tells me.

The procedure to get extended drain intervals is determined by the *engine* manufacturer and is usually predicated on filter type and oil analysis. Synthetic or fossil oil and/or the advice of an *oil* manufacturer are NOT the determining factors for extended change intervals.

I'll stay with M1 until this has a year or so to prove itself better. Sounds impressive but M1 has been in the business a loooong time.

I just received my second oil analysis from Blackstone. I use Castrol GTX 5w30, a NAPA Gold one quart filter and change at ~3000 miles. I have a W24 and my weight with toad is 26,500#s. Motorhome has 14,000 miles on it.
I've placed my Blackstone report online. http://people.consolidated.net/tomnagy/WPM$29A7.pdf
I'll quote Blackstone below.
-Tom
05/05/09
Gasoline (Unleaded)
Castrol GTX 5W/30
Oil use interval: 3271 miles
0 qts added between changes
"TOM: The data culled from testing of this sample shows that this 8.1L is phrasing through wear-in normally."
"We saw the reduction in metals and silicon that we expected, and in fact, most metals read at better-than-average levels. It's always nice to see an American engine wearing as nicely as this one does."
"Insolubles, which are oxidized solids caused by heat, use, and blow-by, read low at 0.3%, showing good oil filtration and no combustion problems. No moisture, coolant, or fuel dilution was present, and the viscosity was normal for this oil type and grade. Excellent report!"

Tom, do you really think it is necessary to have an oil analysis done when you are on a 3000 mile oil change interval? I would think the expense of the lab work would not be justified with this short of oil change interval. With the low total mileage and short distance between oil changes on your W-24 I would expect nothing but excellent results being reported by Blackstone.

3k Changes do not preclude that all is ok. If, you ask for TBN (Total Base Number) test you may find that the oil is good to go for a longer period of time. IE - Plenty of additive package left. But, if you have the TAN (Total Acid Number) test run you may find the oil has gone acidic and you need to change it. The base test and TBN+TAN costs $42.50. Is it worth it..

Nope, not since I read about Castrol's legal problem, re: trying to call dino remnants "synthetic." It's probably real good oil, but that attempt at subterfuge put me off. Mobil 1 has been around a long time, is proven, and I am personally aware of the results of some long time users. That's all I need.
I switched both my engine and tranny, specifically not only for lubrication performance, but to avoid heat, especially in the tranny, where it is the #1 killer. And I can tell you it has made a heck of a difference.
Other than that, have no strong feelings one way or the other.
