Anyone out there have a solution for the oil dipstick that gets smoking hot at the point it goes between the exhaust manifold and the engine. Mine has gotten black for 3 inches on each side of that point.

I have called workhorse but they don't seem to be much concerned.

Seems to me that this causes the oil in the pan to act as a heat sump for the dipstick. Granted this would not raise oil temperature much it is really causing the dipstick to discolor.

Ditto for mine. I wish it wasn't so, but do not think it is a problem worth worrying about.

Mine is the same way, it gets so hot it was causing the oil on the stick to carbonize, little black specks. Dealer bent it or adjusted it away from the manifold. Vet Man

My W24 does that too and I had that problem with my old 7.4L P30 chassis. Naturally that hot spot is where you want to grab the dipstick as it comes out.

Same here on a W20. I suppose it's just the norm.

The discoloration is directly related to manifold heat but it's nothing to be worried about.

I ended up just carrying a piece of steel wool and every so often I would clean off the dip stick. Making sure I clean it very well before putting it back in.

I had the same problem with discoloration on the dipstick portion. After I had the Banks Powerpack installed, I pulled the tube assembly out, cleaned the tube area off and coated the area with barbeque paint coating that you can get at Home Depot (name of product: Barbeque and Stove heat resistant coating by Rust-Oleum). It resists heat up to 1,000 degrees. So far, no problem, no discoloration. I recommend you try this.

Never thought of that, it's a great idea.
