I remember seeing this in the past on the forum and after doing a search I've come up empty handed.
What is the recommendation for a large capacity oil filter for the 8.1L engine. I'm going to use synthetic oil this time probably Mobil 1
Thanks for your help.

I run the 1 qt size with regular Dino oil as I change at 5000 miles. Your fill capacity with the 1 qt filter would be 7 qts. Here are some filter choices listed below.

1 Qt)-Napa Oil Filter-PN 21060- ACDelco # PF1218)
2 Qt)-Napa Oil Filter-PN 1794-ACDelco #PF932F-Wix #51794

I use Mobil 1 10-30 with an AC, std. size filter. Many use 5-30 and many report high oil usage. I have never added oil before 4000+ miles. 5W oil may provide better mileage however, it may also result in more oil burned.

Thank you for your helpful replies. Thanks too for the link to Oemy's site I forgot to check his site.
What is the main advantage to using the large size filter?

The larger (1 quart) size oil filter offers more square inches of filter media which translates into more capacity to trap impurities in the oil. Another added convienience, for me anyway, is that with the larger filter, the oil required for an oil change is 7 quarts, instead of the 6 1/2 quarts required when using the shorter stock filter. I don't have to have an extra 1/2 quart of oil sitting around the garage. I too use the NAPA Gold 1060 oil filter most of the time.

I use the Napa Gold 2 qt size. Never hurts to have more oil and more filtration.

Napa Gold 2 qt , Mobil 1 10/30 change 3000 to 4000 miles . After going to Mobil 1, oil consumption dropped in half.

I'm not trying to high jack this thread but have a related question.
If for example I wanted to change just the oil filter without doing an oil change to use a higher capacity filter, how much oil will drain out the oil filter mounting fixture when I make the change? Or, let me ask it a different way – I just had my oil changed and have a fresh 6 plus quarts of Mobil 1 in my engine. But, I don’t like the filter used with the oil change and want to put on a NAPA 1060. If I just remove the current filter will I have a gush of oil leaving the filter attachment or will it be just a typical half cup or so?
