I'm thinking that 4000 to 5000 miles of long over the road miles is fine between changes.

No worries over 5000 mile oil changes. I have done this on our 8.1 since purchased new. I have to add 1 quart between changes, and it is at, or near, 1 quart low at oil change time.

Walmart sells Mobile 1 15,000 mile extended synthetic for 6.72 a quart.

It says it's good for 15,000 miles before a change. That's what I always use.

I'd have no problem going 6,000 miles using that oil.

you can go 7500 miles really easy. I did 10k last year on 1 oil change. 2 quart fitler user here as well.
