Over Gross?

Just returned from a trip into the Appalachians, then to DC and back to FL. RV did great, pulled hills with no complaints and handled respectably. On the way back, after topping up with fuel, I decided to pull into the scale and get some concrete numbers and what I found out surprised me.
My gross weight was 18,040 lbs with 5740 on the front axle and 12,300 on the rear.
My axle ratings are 5500/11000 respectively with a GVWR of 16,500. So I am severely overloaded based on the numbers and I did not even have a toad in tow. (I cannot find a GCWR listed anywhere..) So what to do now? I didn't notice any ill effects during my 1500+ mile trip but it seems I should downsize somewhere.
Any thoughts?

Rv is a 97 Fleetwood Southwind Storm with a P30/32 chassis and a 7.4l. I have recently replaced the shocks, front springs, sway bar bushings and steering stabilizer. It is possible that it handled so poorly before those upgrades that even overloaded it feels fantastic to me now.
Can't wait to hear your thoughts.

I have always suspected that we were all close. I need to weigh after hearing your story.

Start by going thru all your 'STUFF'

Do you REALLY need it................have you used it or is in 'just in case'

Less is MORE!!

We FTd for 7 yrs................hit the scales every year so that we DIDN'T collect stuff

Folks would pull in for a weekend of camping and it reminded us of that 'circus clown car' where stuff just kept coming out-------

I can open ANY compartment/cabinet/drawer etc and without having to mve stuff see everything in them.
And funny thing is we never needed any more then what we had with us

Just the basics.....and a Credit Card

Overweight is NOT safe.......and it increases wear/tear.......plus the added cost hauling it around for what?
