I need to replace one of my airbags inside the coil springs up front. Anyone know the Workhorse or GM part number?
2003 P-32 , Winnebago Sightseer 30B

Thanks, Greg

I just replaced mine last weekend. I used the Air Lift 1000s not the factory ones. Everything went pretty well and they seemed to fit fine. Good luck!

DRIVER --WHY JUST SPRINGS?

Air springs are inflatable air cylinders and fit inside your coil springs to add up to 1,000 lbs. of leveling capacity. Each cylinder has an inflation valve, so you can vary the air pressure to level your vehicle and compensate for uneven loads. Load assists reduce roll, sway, and bottoming out.

to boost suspension strength and ability to "play" with that total in the absence of knowing what the total strength actually needed may be.

who told you this?

start with knowing what your load actually is (in total) and where it is (quadrants)

meh

1st: rear trac bar
2nd: front sway bar
3rd: springs based on ACTUAL weight to be supported
4th: fix up stock suspension and steering parts
5th: tire air pressure also based on weight and a GOOD alignment

seeya on the highway.

That's the key to the springs, not one size fits all. The springs are tailored to the GAWRF. If I had a P I would think about loosing the air bags and going with the springs. I'm just sayin'

My 34 ft bounder (P-30 chassis) had air bags. They went flat!, the springs went flat, only 1 in. tavel before bottoming. National Spring in Santee, Ca. sold me new springs, especially for that problem, they are gold color for ID. Self installed, now lots of travel, no air bags needed (or wanted) and price was right.Alpine Joe

Hi, Alpine Joe

How much were the springs? Did you install them yourself? I only have about 1 3/4 inch travel with my P-32 with air bags. When I hit a rut, I bottom out quickly.

Thank You

Fred Rubio from Pasco, Wa.

So, why can't ya have both upgraded springs and airbags?

Keep in mind this is a P32 question. The good old reliable bread truck!

And the "1000#" came from Air Lift 1000s web site. And they have mini compressor kits.

The best add on to my P32 suspension was the rear stabilizer bar. Springs and bags are good. Breaks are dependable, safe, and occasionally squeak like a bread truck. Newer isn't always better...

I would suppose you could do both but to what end other than spending money needlessly.
The original "bread truck" was the GM P30 and was never used as a motorhome chassis. After some suspension refinements by GM I believe Fleetwood started using it as a motorhome platform. Then after some further suspension refinements was given the P32 designation.

Workhorse has no control over coach manufacturers design and weight distribution which along with aerodynamics greatly affect the ride and handling.
Having had two coaches on the P32 chassis in the past I was able to fine tune the ride and handling simply by air pressure adjustments.

InPursuit; No special compressor is needed, you can use the same one that is used on the tires. The #1000 rating is in the engeneering specs.

No need to do load calculations and all that other stuff. As long as the minimum ride hight is maintained simply adjust the air pressure until you have the ride and handling that suits you.
Air assisted suspensions have been around for over 50 years because they work. I would suggest doing some minor testing and adjustments before throwing the baby out with the water.
It may be that a particular coach design needs the assistance of a track bar or sway bar or both and I would persue that as opposed to redesigning an excelent suspension.
Your decision, just my experianced 2 cents worth.

Everything I have ever read on this subject says to replace in "pairs". Just food for thought. On my unit, I had my right front bag to let loose on a return trip and it let me out of alignment enough to wear out my steer tires. I replaced the coils with super-steer coils and got rid of the air bags. It raised my front up over 2 1/4 in. New tires, shocks, and alignement has put it back better than it was new.

good luck !!
cheers

A P32 motorhome chassis is not a 'bread truck' chassis.

Cheers
