I have a '93 Itasca Sunrise 27'. When I crank the engine the speedometer goes up to about 30 mph then back to zero when the engine starts. It seems to read speed and mileage correctly, but I want to know what is causing this. It seems it could be a grounding problem, but I have not been able to locate a bad ground.
Another problem that may or may not be related is the cruise control will not engage. I first checked for vacuum leaks and found none. I checked the control stalk for continuity and it seems to work correctly. I looked at all of the wiring connections and they seemed OK. I took the servo apart and didn't see any obvious problems and the control cable to the throttle is free. I checked the brake switches and they work correctly. I took the speed sensors out of the transmission and didn't see any obvious problem and the wiring connections are good. The only thing left that I know of is the ECM for the cruise. Is there any way to check that?
It is a Rostra unit and I have not been able to get any info from companies online that test and repair about it. I have been told that the control stalk is usually the problem and I would replace that but I can't find a replacement. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Dan

May be the nature of the beast, my '92 pickup did the same thing until it passed away at 150,000 miles.

Do your brake lights work? Cruise won't engage unless they work. Also check the switch on the brake pedal that opens cruise circuit.

Welcome.

Don't know about the speedmeter.

Try putting your toe under brake pedal and hold it up. While driving
try to engage CC. If it engages you need to move the plunger switch in 2-3 turns.
These plungers are plastic and will wear off.

Thats how I fixed mine but mine is newer. It is worth a try.

Good luck

Ron

The brake-lite switch going out of adjustment is common for people who slide their foot off the pedal allowing it to slam upward. Good luck!
