Had the new air operated park brake installed at Brazels this past Wed. Works beautiful, no more worries about being stuck on the side of the road with the park brake locked. The new system has a way to release the brake if you lose air pressure.

Thanks to "OUB" for all the info you sent me on the old system.

Is this to replace the auto-park system on a P-32?

Yes, it replaces the complete system on the P32, no more "Rotten Green Switch" or anything left.

oldpa: you can find out more about this new system at : http://www.brazelsrv.com/ or by calling 877-786-1576. Brazels is a sponsor here, and a really honest business too. ED

Is this a P-32 or a W series? I know this is a pretty expensive fix, what was wrong with your autopark?

Mine is a P-32, I'm they have an upgrade kit for the W series also.

I hadn't had any problems with mine except that the alarm would sound sometimes when it was in park. I decided to have it changed before it did malfunction. The MH has over 72,000 miles on it now, so the PB has had lots of use.

The peace of mind is worth the expense since I plan on keeping the MH a few more years.

Let us know how the new air operated one works out long term, Also what is involved in manually releasing it , in case of a malfunction.

The release mechanism is a threaded rod with a "T" on one end that inserts into the back of the air can and connects to the rod that goes to the park brake. You insert the rod into the can, press in on it and turn clockwise until it locks, then put a washer and a 3/4" nut on the rod and tighten the nut up. As you tighten the nut it pulls the rod that activates the park brake out releasing the brake. Takes less than a minute to release the brake, just have to remember to keep a 3/4" ratcheting box end wrench in the MH.

Hope I explained it right, if not either Mike or Jon will probably correct me tomorrow.

Max its just like the spring applied parking brake on the 10 wheeler dump trucks that belong to the company you work for. Air applied to a diaphram inside an air chamber keeps the brake off, a coil spring applies the brake when air is evacuated from the air chamber. When you have a blown diaphram, or other air problems, the spring can be caged manually by using the supplied tool, thus releasing the brake.

Thay's pretty impressive, and encouraging news. that you got 72,000 miles without it ever giving you trouble. Never locked up on you and even the green switch didn't need replaced?
That's pretty good for any parking brake including the new air operated one.
I do see that you like 'lots of upgrades'

I bet you miss the growling when you release your new parking brake tho

Here is the cost for mine (P32)
park brake compressor $271.00
park brake upgrade kit $1,650.00
labor to install $517.50

Total $2,438.00

IMO it was well worth it
