Parking brake wire missing

My 2001 Winnebago Brave SE 26P parking brake light is lit momentarily when the engine is turned on, but does not stay lit while the parking brake remains set. I found that there is no wire connected to the switch on the parking brake mechanism and no loose wire dangling from above. Further inspection reveled a yellow wire in the dash with a "PARK ACC" tag attached. This wire goes to a long connector. A light green wire exits from the connector and has been cut off. Could this green wire have been connected to the parking brake switch? If so, any idea why a previous owner would have cut it off?

Thanks for your help.

NormD: Assuming you have a P32 GM/Workhorse chassis with the J71 AAPB. If so, you will WANT to make contact with the EXPERT on that system at : oldusedbear11@charter.net . Roger can also be reached thru : oldusedbear@oemys-performance.com While I can't imagine a reason why the previous owner disabled a warning light, I'm sure Roger will be glad to help you correct ANY problem you may have with the system.

Welcome to iRV2.com.

My Brave is on a P32 GM/Workhorse chassis. Sorry, I didn't realize there was more than one version of the Brave SE 26P.

Roger "oldusedbear11@charter.net " was unable to help with the problem. His experience was with autopark systems, and mine is not one of those. Anybody else have an idea how the parking brake light switch on the pedal is wired to the parking brake light in the dash?

on my moho, the wire going to the pb switch is black. a light blue wire is spliced into it before they both disappear into a plastic loom cover. because there is only 1 wire going to this switch, imho the switch must be completing a ground.
my hwh systems will not work if this switch is not operational.
i have had the connector come off a couple of times. my transmission must be in park also.
i discovered that if i keep my foot on the parking brake pedal when i release the parking brake and thus do a ''soft'' release i have less trouble with this switch.

Thank you, Dan. The soft release idea is a good one, even without a wire attached. That pedal really slams hard when released!

After another thorough check, I don't find any unattached wires of black or any shade of blue. The downloaded wiring diagrms for my model don't appear to include the instrument panel wiring. This seems to be my next step - finding the brake pedal wire at the instrument panel connector and following it to its end. The Workhorse website did not seem to have what I need. Any suggestions on where to get an instrument panel schematic?

NormD: Sorry, I did not mean to send you on a wild goose chase by recommending you contact Roger. I did not realize there were ANY P32 chassis that don't use the J71 AAPB. If you don't mind, will you please post your chassis GVWR or the last 8 digits of the vin # so I can learn more about it. THANKS!

Norm: Thanks for the info, it taught me (again) not to assume anything when it comes to RVs.

FWIW, the vin # you provided allowed me to learn that you have a 2000 model year chassis model P31432, with a 12,300 GVWR. It is the GVWR that allowed them to use the foot applied PB and NOT the J71 AAPB required for the heavier GVWRs. Can you tell us if your foot applied PB is attached to a brake device on the driveshaft or does it apply the rear service brakes? Thanks!

The good news is that there are no open campaigns (recalls) on yours, but the bad news is that the WCC database shows the owner to be "Sieglitz" in Albq., NM. If that is not you, then I recommend you send proof of ownership to WCC and ask them to update their records. Let me know if you have any other questions about your chassis components.

Thanks, again.

Ed, the parking brake pedal applies force to the rear drum brakes, and not to the driveshaft.

Thanks for checking on my MH. I had already requested that the ownership info be changed, and they said that it would take awhile to do so.

Regarding "other questions about chassis components" there are a number of odd little boxes under the dash that I can't identify. Has anybody put together a list and descriptions of these things? (Unfortunately, none seem related to my parking brake problem.)

Norm
