Performance Hardware/Software Combo

I've been researching ECM Programming and Bolt-ons, it seems there are good things to be said for:
Ultrapower, 5 Star and Banks Ottomind
I've emailed some of the larger shops that do these installs and in most cases gotten the same response that the Banks Torque Tube header installation really makes these programming changes come to life. Very few have had much to say on Cold Air Intake improvements..and none recommended a different brand of header.
Has anyone here run with the Banks headers first then added the programming or vice versa? What were impressions of the difference?

I'm less concerned with the economy than performance, particularly improved power and more defined shifting while mountain driving with a toad.

Just be aware that several have posted problems resulting from the relocation of the o2 sensors due to headers changing the exhaust layout. I freely admit to being a "if it ain't broke" kind of guy, and cheap too, so factor that into your decision.

Related to Ultrapower installation; is there a So Cal shop that has an RV chassis dyno? I'm leaning toward UP install but want some before and after evidence of it's impact.

I have the full banks set up and the ultra-power up grade. I called Brazels RV in Washington and Jon sent me a updated ECM and i installed it my self, very easy. Jon was very great to work with. He also has the HP/Torque curves for the 8.1 before and after UP`s upgrade. Also check with Redlands (See ad at top of page). I am happy with the ultra-power upgrade. The increase in power is Great but not much increase in gas mileage still 6 to 7 mpg at best. I am running 90% of my travel out west and have the W-24 chassis also. I set my cruise at 64 mph at about 2600 rpm, I only have the 5 speed. It will hold at that while travel down I-40 & other highways. When it down shifts it only does one gear at a time. I will be taking I-70 west out of Denver this weekend so we will see how that goes. I know it will be a slow ride up and over the grades. Good Luck JP
