Started up the new coach yesterday and boy did that pump make noise. I'm pretty sure it's the pump as it changes sound when the steering wheel is turned. Is this a standard WH noise or do i have a problem? I have a 07 W20. Thanks!

Growling is usually a sign that the pump is sucking air. Are there any signs of a leak? Did you check the fluid level in the resevoir? It is a remote canister and not part of the pump.

If it starts to growl only when you start it in Cold temps. then it's just WCC's way of telling you it want's to go South.
As far as I know it's a somewhat common abdominally with the work horse chassis. Notice I didn't use the word, "problem." Some are louder than others but normally only last a short time depending on how cold it is. Last year Work Horse and the local Work Horse repair shop decided to switch my power steering fluid to a special cold weather fluid to see if it would quiet it. Didn't help my W24. I've heard where some had their pumps changed on warranty and it helped some and some still had a noise.
A fix is to point it South until you start to see lawn mowers.

Here are previous posts on power steering noises.
http://irv2.infopop.cc/eve/forums?a=search&reqWords=power+steering+pump+noise We encountered the same noise when the weather was cold, but it went away when it got warmer.

My P12 Chassis does the same..but all this time
I "thought" the noise was coming from the cold
ATF in the Allison, and it was the sound of a cavitating pump, or the pressure relief valve dumping back to the pan, due to thick fluid when cold.
I have all the same symptoms--ambient temperature around freezing, noise on start-up,
like a loud buzz, noise goes away. Above a certain temp. no noise. Will try to move the steering wheel and listen.

My new to me 2004 Allegro 32BA has a power steering noise, where is the power steering reservoir?
How does one know what chassis one has, the paper work says Model: P32122, and has 20,700lb for GVWR.
Thanks Johnnie

Check and see if you have independent front suspension (big springs with air bags inside them), which is a P-32 Workhorse chassis that was discontinued in 2005.
If you have front leaf springs, you have a W-20 Workhorse Chassis.
My power steering reservour is a big 'ol black tank on the drivers side under the hood.

I've been following this topic and as yet no one has asked about your brake performance. Does not the power steering pump also provide power brake boost? Is there a relation here?

The relation is that both the steering and Hydro-Max obtain pressure from the power steering pump. That just about limits the relationship. The PS pump is driven by the serpentine belt.
The electric motor is an emergency only device which is decoupled from the routine operation of the vehicle when the engine "is" running. Further the emergency motor provides boost pressure for the Hydro-Max only. Steering although difficult will not be impossible in an emergency situation. Braking on the other hand is practically impossible without boost.

DriVer, do you know where the power steering reservoir is located, I would like to check the level?

Your PS pump is located to the right front when you're looking under the hood. You will see a black cap and attached to that cap is a short dipstick. Unscrew the cap counter clockwise. Check your power steering after the vehicle has achieved its nominal operational temperature.
Use a specifically labeled power steering fluid which is available at a quality jobber in your neighborhood.
