Would like to know what others who have recently checked out tire prices think about these prices.

Seriously considering saying farewell to my faithful Michelin XRV's which will be entering their flawless 7th year this Nov. Where does the time go?

Recent price quote for 6 Michelin XRV 235x80x22.5; DOT Date 24-10.

$371.00 each inc RR/ Balance. Taxes, recycling, etc. OTD total $2,377.00.

Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank's, Pat

Pat, that's not a bad price. I paid $380 plus mounting and balance a couple months ago. I am very happy with the Michelin XRV's performance and wouldn't buy anything else. Michelin stopped producing the XRV's for a while last year so if you like the performance, you would be wise to purchase them before they decide to reduce their production again. By the way, there was a big price increase this year..

I use the "increment" approach.

Allowing that a Bridgestone or Toyo (225-70-195) is perfectly adequate at $250 per...
How much less than $250 does an unknown brand have to be to get past the uncertainty and quality concerns and conversely how much better can a Michelin be to warrant paying a 50% premium to have them.

My brother (the towing and limo guy) swears by them and won't have anything else...
not me though.

I think my tires a tad bigger at 255R80 22.5 and I was quoted last month $525 each for the set of six tires in Grants Pass, Oregon. That is the out the door price - mount, balance, etc. everything except alignment. Don't know for sure but I have heard if you go to a major RV rally you can get tires at a fleet price discount and at that price any discount helps.

FWIW - the last written comments I read regarding Michelin tires (I have the same size as you) is that the tires are good until 10 years and then should be changed rfegardless of their condition. However (there's always a however!), according to the written statement, a Michelin rep should check the tires every year after the seventh year to insure their roadability.

Fred, interesting you should mention the availability thing. The place I got the quote is a large truck tire dealer and moves a lot Michelins in my area. He has a matched set of 6 xrv's he showed me that were about a month old. I asked him if he sold those could he get me another set later this year and he said last year Michelin halted production on some tires for a time, winter, and it hasn't been quite the same since. He didn't know for sure what the availibility would be.
Pat

I hear what your saying, But, the DW has gotten into this tire thing and I'm getting a lot of pressure from the co-pilot side, especially after some friends just replaced their 6yr. olds. She's a very level headed and understanding partner to have in the Right seat and I'd be in a real mess if I delayed the purchase and it turned out BAD. We'll see how this goes.
Thank's Pat

I am paying $465.00 + tax a piece complete in Jersey for 6 Michelins 255/80/22.5,, not cheap but I have had good performance with them,(they still look like new) even though I am trying to sell my coach. I was thinking about trying to save a few bucks by buying a cheaper tire but if I don't find a buyer for the coach I will be keeping it and I will have the Michelins.

I just replaced all 6 of mine at Les Schwab. I got six 16-ply Toyos with date codes within the last 6 weeks, plus balancing and a new valve stem on one wheel for less than $2400.

Given Schwab's road hazard warranty, I think this was a fair deal.

We've been Schwab customers for about 25 years, at different franchises as we've moved around, but they keep your profile on their computers. A few years ago, we had a road debris failure that pierced the sidewall of one of the OEM tires on our Honda Accord. We went into our local Schwab store to buy a replacement and were (as the Brits say) absolutely gob-smacked when they replaced the tire at no charge, even though they hadn't sold it to us.

That's how you build customer loyalty, folks!

I just replaced all six, last Wednesday in Valdosta, Ga. Just 3 months over 7 years on the DOT Stamp. 34K miles.
Tire, mounting, balanced, recycle fee, tax $2,900 and some change. Lost a weight on one wheel and had a Belt separate.
Had an alignment done also. Total was $3,100 and change.

Now I need the brake calibers and I will be good to go.

faye, We have a Michelin auto/truck tire dealer here in Myrtle Beach. I'm sure that you can also find one using Google or the Yellow Pages.

If you come to the Workhorse Club Rally on Cape Hatteras, I believe the Michelin rep will be there.

At any rate, I have a Michelin tire checking gauge and I'll personally take a look at your sidewalls if you come to Hatteras OR Myrtle Beach.
