Didn't you check under coach before handing over money during PDI? ---"007"

Don't know why yours is rusting but I have an 03 built in Oct. of 02 and to date I have NO rust anywhere I can see on the chassis. I spend most of my time in Ca. and AZ. Don't know if that makes adifference or not.

I took delivery of mine in Nov.02. The dealer did not pressure wash it since I did the PDI while they were clening it up. It was pretty dirty from being driven from the Mfg. in the rain about 60 miles. Since then I have done all of the washing and check the undercarrage at least once a month, and still have no rust.

What month did you buy it? Also your dealer may have followed the direction of the manufacturer and that is to pressure wash the underside when they take delivery.]

Winnie has what I call a "bad habit" of buying chassis in large chunks and leaving them sit around in the damp air. I was looking at an '05 Adventure in Nov 04 that was on an '03 chassis. How long was this chassis sitting out in the elements???

I think it is too late for rustproofing as it is probably impossible to remove ALL the rust. A possible solution is to mix up a gallon of diesel fuel with a quart of linseed oil, and spray (hand spray bottle) it on the undercarriage. This is what the folks that live on/near the outer banks in NC do to keep equipment from rusting from the salt air. I learned this from the Maintenance supervisor at Cape Lookout National Seashore.
I have not had any rust to speak of on my rig, but I do the above on the nuts and bolts underneath about every three or four months

Might consider when it was delivered to the dealer. Following a "winter event" when all the road chemicals are down it is very possible to get a MH delivered from Indiana or North Anywhere completely covered, not just the underside, with potenitally corrosive material. If not properly removed by the dealer ("Required by OEM to pressure wash") the probability of setting up a galvanic corrosion dynamic is very high. "Road Salt" combined with water will set up a chemical reaction between dissimilar metals that WILL cause corrosion, bolts, nuts, and framses are not made of the same metals. I have a 2001 Mountain Aire that has corrosion on the frame which I am now treating, so even if it was "undercoated" it didn't work.

Looking at your pictures on the website I would say you have an excellent chance of getting some serious legal attention. It appears that the frame probably sat in the open for a very long time before being used in your coach. The view of the weld and frame rust could very easily be a structural safety issue, if not now very soon. Where was the 3/8th inch camber photo taken? I would assume there are lots of folks supporting you on this issue.

It seems to me your options are to get a refund from Winnebago (or dealer) for the missing undecoating job or let them go ahead and do the clean-up and undercoat now. Doing it now may not be as effective as if it were done before it left the factory, but it is not a waste of effort either.
Personally I would have the undercoating done and stop agonizing over it. Surface rust is ugly but not fatal. It's a shame you didn't get what you ordered, but lack of it hardly seems like justification for a buy-back.

cboh1,
I am shocked to see the amount of rust on the coach to chassis support. It looks much more then just surface rust. My coach was driven from the manufacturer to Ca. in the winter time and I had no rust on my chassis at the time I purchased it. My coach had also been used at a couple of shows so it had been driven more before I purchased it. Even after almost 3 years of ownership, I have very little surface rust under the coach. Just from the picture you have posted, I would say all of the supports should be replaced. I know it may look different in real life but the pictures show it to be a problem. I would be jumping up and down and yelling if my chassis had looked like this. And yes I crawled under my coach before I purchased it. The sales person thought I was nuts but I spent a good 15 minutes under the coach before I purchased it.

cboh1,
Looked over your pix, looks very similar to mine. I don't have the dripping transmission or worn upolstery, but the same spots are rusty on mine. Looked like this when I bought it new and now at 25k miles, it isn't any worse. The shim on the axle is for setting the alignment. I do all my own services and looked everything over when I first brought it home, wouldn't have let the drive shaft yoke go ungreased. It was built by humans and I double check them, heck, I double check and triple check my own work. The air intake is like that on all Adventueres, it is covered when the hood is closed, I have driven in extremely heavy rains, never got any water in the engine, the air intake has almost 180 degree bend going down then up, water can't get in. Plus there is a little drain at the bottom. I've worked on all differant brands and types of trucks for years and the rusting is nothing I haven't seen before and doesn't affect anything, it is merely cosmectic. I doubt you'll get anywhere, but good luck in you efforts.
Best Regards!
