Problems getting my CLASS A in reverse

I have a 1995 Winnebago Adventurer which is built on a 1994 P30 Chassis. It does not have a parking pin but a hydraulic clamp on the drive shaft. Frequently, it won't go into reverse (the clap won't release but I can hear it shift into reverse) but all other shift position work fine. i.e. drive, 1st and 2nd. has anyone experienced this problem and where do i get it fixed. Even though it 18 years old, it only has 11,000 miles on it.

Thanks

I do not know, but could it be the Auto Park system?? Do a search on this forum for AutoPark, lots of info. Also a guy named "old usedbear" is the authority in this

Does it drive fine in the forward gears? I would think that if the APP was not releasing it would not move (unless you are overpowering it). Does it have an Allison transmission? The control cable that runs from the drivers control to the transmission connects to a mechanism that controls the shift lever on the transmission. The reason is there is no park pawl. That means there is no lever movement beyond reverse and this mechanism kicks the shift lever back into neutral when shifted into park. This mechanism when not used can rust and corrode causing a "no reverse" but "neutral" and "all forward gears" function as normal. This is one possibility if you have an Allison transmission and this type of control system.

If you could provide more details it would also help to know what systems you have.

Well Im finally having this worked on. What I've discovered is that by gently pulling down on the shifting lever when in reverse, it will release the APP. So my mechanic says it just a linkage adjustment. We'll see. I hope he's right.

AutoPark

Have your mechanic THOROUGHLY lube the cam/switch that feeds the autopark control system. The switch is somewhat hard to reach/find and is connected with linkage to the gear shift lever mechanism at the base of the steering column. Quite often, this cam switch only needs lubrication. In more serious cases it may need adjustment.

We have more detailed info on this subject if you're interested.

email me at oldusedbear11@charter.net - - We should be able to get you going, but there is too much info to exchange on the forum. Direct email works best.
