I was recently at a MH service center and was told I only had 3/32" of brake pad left...that is less than 1/8" and what I would consider wafer-thin. 3/32 is about the thickness of a ballpoint pen refill...perhaps a little thinner.
When I looked at my rear brake pad (workhorse W22 chassis) I measure at least 3/8" of brake pad.
What is the thickness of a new pad (the pad only)? I cannot imagine they are more than 5/8" thick when new, but do not know for sure.
Additionally, my rear rotors exhibited some evidence of heat cracking and although they were not very pronounced and difficult to initially see, I could feel a few of them with my fingernail.
My questions:
1. Thickness of new pads?
2. At what point do heat cracks require attention? In other words, are minor "blemishes" normal vs. cracks that obviously are deep and radiate out to the rotor edge?
3. Does turning the rotors cure the problem or only make rotors thinner and more prone to additional heat cracks.
4. At what measurement of remaining pad should pads be replaced? Certainly by 3/32", but what about 3/8", or 1/4".

I dont have a answer for all your questions, but I just last mo.
had my pads replace on the rear, and I keep my OLD WORNOUT pads.

As they were change because they had been HEAT CHECKED, TWICE!!!
I just grabbed the first pad in the box, just PAD measured 7/16 thick.
Now that is 5 plus yrs. old with 32K miles on a W-20 chassie.

My guess is that the new pads are 1/2 inch thick. If I get a guess???
Also my next guess is that the MH spends about 95% of its time on
the Interstate. And I drive it hard, but when not on the interstate
I drive ahead of myself, as far as I can see. Not like my wife as
she will be the first one at the red light, and the first one to
leave...

I would not have my disk turned, as they seem to be marginal at best!
