Radiator Drain - What's Wrong with this Picture
I am in the process of changing my coolant and all the hoses on my W24. I crawled under to open the radiator petcock and found what you see in the photo below. Looks to me that someone has previously broke the petcock and glued in a plug. Am I missing something here?
I had to remove the lower hose to drain the system, although the shower was free

When I changed my W22 coolant last year all the sites I lookup suggest not to touch that drain plug as it has a tendency to break. They suggested removing the lower hose and drain from there.

I would say they broke it tightening it. They don't turn very far in either direction.

Are you certain that it's not factory? Very few radiators have that bottom petcock anymore.

To be honest, I don't know. Going by OEMY's web site, I expected a petcock. I would feel a lot better if I knew this was factory and not someone's repair job. I am wondering now if it will blow out some day if it is.
In that vain, does anyone know if there is a petcock on all Workhorse chassis'. Mine is a 2005 W24.

The radiator is plastic and the oem petcock is plastic.....your looks like it has been snapped off. If it ain't leaking, I'd leave it alone.

The original petcock on mine had a hole in which a 1/4" drive fit into. The petcock was like a bayonet type fitting and only twist CCW a partial turn to open. At that point, I was able to extract it completely for a free bath. I replaced it with a part from Napa

FWIW, I think what you have is original. There isn't a traditional "petcock" that protrudes and may have been broken off. Hope this makes you feel better.
As others have posted, don't mess with it. Apparently it is easily broken "internally" and it is unlikely to be damaged if you use the bottom hose to drain the radiator, as you apparently have already done..

It a almost looks like a plug. I can see the slot where the key on the peacock would ride. As stated, it has never leaked so I am not touching it.

It's plastic and it breaks fairly easy.

Do you think I have some type of plug in the radiator since it looks like none of those photos?

Thanks.
Wondering if I should pick up the NAPA piece and throw it into the spare parts box just in case it should be a problem on the road.

From what I have seen and the number of phone calls I have had most if not all WH chassis use this drain plug.
