I have had slight leakage from my right rear axle. On my recent trip it became worse and I had to get it repaired. When the mechanic pulled the axle, the gasket fell off in pieces. I can't believe that Dana or WCC would allow this junk to be put on a MH, the gasket looked like some sort of Mylar film. If the Navy used this on ships, the entire fleet would be on the bottom. Nice going WCC and Dana you must have saved $.10 on the chassis cost....

Almost all axle manufactures today use sylicone sealer to seal the axles to the hub. If they leak they probably worked loose.

Yep, it's the same old story, they fixed the problem on the newer models, but let the older owners 2002,3,4,5, fend for themselves. The same response as the ACTIA instrument panel. I know it's a DANA axle , but doesn't WCC define the specs?????

Bud, I just had my rear axles out to complete a brake job. The rear axle flange gasket is nothing more than a Permatex type silicone film. It's holding just fine.
I really don't know IF there is a pre-fabricated gasket. I think the silicone is the standard sealing material directly from Dana.

Mike, the gasket that was on mine was a Mylar film premade gasket that cracked. I found a Garage in Bainbridge, NY that had me repaired and underway in 20 min. for the price of, get this, only $33. BTW I have retired once again after doing 475 walk thrus. I still consider the Winnie to be the best on the market..

Dana uses RTV sealant part #107276S. No gaskets are listed in the Dana parts listing for the S130.
Quoting Dana S130 rearend illustrated parts list AXIP-0055.
""RTV" - Gasket Compound - Formed-in-place gasket sealer. It is recommended for use on all surfaces requiring a gasket."
Possibly what you suspected was a Mylar gasket was RTV sealant.

When Workhorse replaced my leaky gasket, they only used silicone, and NO gasket.....the gaskets are junk.

We use Loctite 515 flange sealant, part number 51531 on all our axle flange and differantial/transmission surface. It flexes with minor flange movements. It is the sealent of choice with our industrial/heavy trucks.

Hmmm, my '04 Dana S130 has O rings. May be a Ford thing?

Your Ford chassis' rear axle is rated for 13,500# and uses the Dana S110 rear end. Not the S130.

That's '08 info.
Ford used an S130 (S135) from '99 - '07 on the 20,500 pound chassis. They rerated the S110 for 13,500 pounds and used it starting in '08.

I always wonder when a manufacturer feels that a particular axle is needed for a vehicle, then a few years later decide that a smaller axle will do the job. Given that most RV's (gas in particular) tend to be overloaded this doesn't give me "warm and fuzzies".
This re-rating could make sense in the delivery truck business line where they have deteremined that the longevity of the lighter axle is fine given that many trucks spend very little time loaded to capacity. This is not the case for RV's.
