FMCA mag for this month mentions a recall for the W-18 chassis for 2006-2008 NHTSA 08V442000. The chassis could have a potential steering problem. I can't find this recall on WH website anywhere. I just wondered how this info gets out in a timely manner.

That's the million dollar question on more than just a potential power steering problem!

GRAMPS: Any time a saftey issue recall campaign is issued, all owners of the chassis involved are notified by mail. This is why it is critical that buyers verify they are the owner of record at "My Workhorse".

If the chassis is at an OEM (coach builder), the OEM must get the campaign completed before building the house on top of it. If the OEM has built and shipped to a dealer, then the dealer to whom it was shipped is responsible to have the campaign completed BEFORE the unit can be sold to a retail consumer.

Most saftey campaigns have a specific range of Vin #s that are "potentially affected", and ALL of them must be notified. You can rest assured that this is being, or has been, done by WCC as is required by the recall.

Workhorse Custom Chassis Service Bulletin
Bulletin Number: 20801-C
Bulletin Type: Campaign Safety
Subject: Steering Arm Castle Nut
Models: Certain 2006, 2007 and 2008 W42 and W18 models.
edited to fix typo. ED
WCC is conducting a safety recall campaign to replace the castle nut and cotter pin on involved vehicles.

The following vehicles are involved:
2006 Models VIN# 63409765 to 63419767
2007 Models VIN# 73417875 to 73429777
2008 Models VIN# 83425662 to 83435224

The campaign may involve certain W18 RV chassis and W42 Commercial step van chassis. (only)

Workhorse believes that a small number of vehicles in the VIN# range may have a stripped nut. If the nut is stripped it can become loose from the drag link stud allowing the drag link to separate from the steering arm. This will result in a loss of steering control and a possible vehicle crash.

A campaign sticker will be affixed to to the vehicle when the campaign is complete.
