I found a hole in one of my 2001 W22 exhaust pipes before the muffler, it's about 1/8" round. What's the best and least expensive method of repair?
Thanks.

I'm only thinking out of the box here having not seen the hole but if as you say it's a 1/8" round hole how about 3/8" long 3/16" self tapping SS screw and a little muffler cement. You may want to drill out the hole and use a larger screw if it'll work. I wouldn't go too long on the screw even if you have to cut it down with a hack saw.

Otherwise a weld is in order from a muffler shop. The pipes are aluminized steel but I'm sure a good shop would know what type of rod to use.

There is also a kit that consists of a fiberglass wrap that is impregnated with a resin that will seal the pipe with the heat generated from the exhaust when the engine is running. Go to Auto Zone and ask, they will know exactly what you need.

Some of the repairs mentioned are illegal in Pennsylvania.

Interesting. Not my home state, but I may pass through there some day. I used to fly into Philly and visit the home office at Ft. Washington.

Most states with vehicle inspections will not pass an exhaust pipe repaired with "muffler tape".

My state does not have a vehicle inspection program.
