Return from Afghanistan and a Question!

Hello to DriVer and all the Good people of iRV2 Forums. You may have remember that last year at this time I was leaving for a military deployment in Afghanistan. I thank you all for the Christmas well wishes last year and I am very hapy to be home! I also thank you all for the support, care and concern you have provided to the US military members serving in both Afghanistan and Iraq. You may not hear it, but it is greatly appreciated by all of us!

My question is regarding the brake recall. I was alble to get my recall completed at Auto Truck Services in Colorado Springs last May. They have provided excellent service since my arrival to Fort Carson in 2005. During the recall, I also had the front and rear pads replaced as I had 43K miles on the pads (In 2010 I had the brake fluid flushed and replaced with DOT 4). Upon my return from deployment, my wife and I took a 3,500 mile trip to the Georgia coast. During this time, we had no problems with the brakes. Unfortunately we did have a problem with a patio awning. This week, while taking the motorhome to the service center (not ATS) for the awning replacement, we noticed a distinct brake smell during several stops for traffic. Upon arrival at the service center, upon exiting the RV, a distinct brake smell was noticed and located to the driver's front wheel. This wheel was extremely hot to the touch. As my wife was driving, I can not comment on the feel of the brake pedal. I have a feeling that this new caliper is "hanging up" which should not be the case with less than 4,000 miles on it. Upon completion of the awning replacement, I will return to Auto Truck Services to follow-up on this problem. In the meantime, has anyone heard of a problem like this AFTER the replacement of new calipers?? If it IS the caliper, would this be covered under the recall?? Kind of funny, as we never did have a problem with the old system. Thanks for any information!!!

1st of all, "Thank you for your service!" It would be a 1st if your recalled calipers hung up but who knows. Bringing the rig back to the shop that did the recall is the best thing you can do at the moment. Please let us know what is found.

DriVer, Once we get the RV out of the shop for the awning, I will return to ATS if needed. I have asked the shop that will replace the awning to take a look at the wheel. They do provide chassis service, but are not an authorized Workhorse Service Center. If something unrelated, I have authorized to repair. If related to the caliper, back we will go to ATS. As I have been gone, was just wondering if anyone else had this problem. Will let you know the final result......thanks!

Welcome home and double thanks for your service, follow Vet.
By your time line of brake replacement I'd say you have not had the latest workhorse recall done with all four calipers replaced, no cost to you, by authorize Workhorse dealer or Select dealer.
This thread will explain.

I have an IR gun and check my tire and wheel temps every time I stop. This alerts me to any potential problems that may be coming up.

Arch, You can also be more proactive if you were to use a TST system that would dynamically monitor the temps while you were going down the road in real time.
