Right Manifold Parts Number ?

dear all,

I am helping my friend who owns 1997 chevy chassis based motorhome , Brave , from Winnebago.
it needs to replace new driver's side exhaust manifold due to the crack and exhaust leak. the vin is 1GBKP37J2V3306938 .

when i checked rock auto, they had two kinds of manifold those are for TBI and MFI .
could anyone please help me out if this vehicle is TBI or MFI ?
or is it such an very easy to figure out ?

at Dorman's website, i found parts number "674391" could be the one to choose. However, i am still not sure if this would be the one.

hope someone already went through this path and figured out a way before could help me figure it out.

thank you.

Look at the top of the engine. This is a small block but the system is the same as what they placed on the big block which I'm guessing this has a 454.

TBI

If it looks similar to this, it's the MPFI.

I've also found the RockAuto pictures to be accurate and helpful deciding what part to buy. In this case the TBI and MFI manifolds look very different so you should easily be able to see what you have.

gmpartsgiant.com is also a useful resource since it can do a VIN based lookup. Your VIN reports as an L29 based chassis which is the newer multipoint fuel injected version of the 454.

sknight is abviously a fellow gearhead judging by the headers on the L98 engine and the Summit racing box below! If you look carefully at the pictures, the TPI has the injectors inside the throttle body, whereas the MPFI is just that Multi point fuel injection (one injector per cylinder) as shown by the yellow injectors on the black intake manifold. I would highly suggest that your friend gets a set of quality exhaust headers and premium copper gaskets, or you will be doing this again. These motorhomes run really hot, and cracking/ warping of the cast iron manifolds are common. I am pretty sure that you have MPFI since GM made the switch in 1996 on their trucks, but double check to make sure it is that way on the coach.

The second picture is just the intake manifold of a MPFI system, off the engine. If your friends intake looks like that, it's MPFI. If it looks like the first picture, which looks like a fancy carburetor, then it's TBI.

Hope not to late. Manifold castings numbers are 14103191/1 left hand, driver side. 10045730/1. for right hand side these are castings numbers only, you should be able find the proper ones. The motor is throttle body on cast iron intake.

Not sure what your future plans are for the coach, but I always said if I have a manifold problem I am just going to install headers and eliminate the issue altogether. The Banks headers for my coach are $1,200. Not sure how much a manifold is.

Rock auto has the manifolds by dorman. Look under 1995 3500 silverado. The numbers i posted are there. They are under $100. Its easy to spend somebody elses money.

thanks for additional info

thank you very much for information.
i will try to check more detail of the coach but seems like it is MPFI and my friend may not go for headers as it cost too much for him.

regards,

I have to agree on the headers vs oem since this is a know issue with the oem manifolds. I would go for the $1200 Stainless Steel Banks, but there are cheaper option in steel headers for under $500.
