Has anyone replaced a serpentine belt on a 2001 Safari Trek? How did you get to it?

Our TREK is a '99, so very similar to yours. I remove the "Doghouse" engine cover and lean over the front of the engine. You need to use a 3/8 in. breaker bar to momentarily release the serpentine belt tensioner. Removing the engine cover can be a pain, and I found that removing the passenger seat makes the process much easier. I use a small ratcheting wrench to remove the four seat mounting bolts and place the seat back away from the engine cover. Also, be sure to understand how the belt wraps around the different pulleys. Either make a sketch, or look in your chassis manuals. Some of the belts have routing diagrams on the packaging.

There is discussion of removing the engine cover on the Trek Tracks forum. If you don't subscribe to this, do it now for invaluable TREK information http://www.nwtfc.com/forum/active.asp

George is correct - I just went through this procedure myself, but I was traveling and CoachNet roadside service sent a mobile mechanic to do the work. He found the spring on the tensioner was weak thus causing the belt to slip and fail during a 500 mile drive.
Mine is a 1999 P32 with 7.4 (454). The belt was inspected and in good condition prior to the trip/failure.
FYI - I made a diagram of belt routing while waiting for the part - glad I did because the diagrams on the new belt package did not match what I had.
