i had to remove my chassis battery for about 12 hours.
sears would not replace the battery even though it tests at 65%.
now my scan gauge ll doesn't display any of the parameters including the x gauge items that i had installed.
how can i get my sc2 back to normal? i hope i don't have to reinstall all the x gauge items. i cannot even get the regular parameters to display now.

I can not help with the reset problem, however! to prevent this from happening again.
This trick will work only if the scan system is power from the chassis battery !!!
With a plug used to power items from the cigarette lighter connect some wire to the plug, then connect a 9 volt battery connector (Radio Shack) to the cable. Connect the positive terminal connector to the wire feeding the center pin of the plug, the ground terminal wire to the ground side.
Install a battery to the connector.
Remove the vehicle battery terminals, negative first. With the battery disconnected inset the plug into the lighter outlet.
This will back feed the system and keep all the memory presets from being lost.
If by chance you have one of those car buster systems that plug into the lighter to help start a car it will perform the same task. It works to save all the settings on your radio and other items while the battery is out or needs to be disabled to perform other maintenance. However!! if you short out the positive line to ground it can blow the lighter fuse and all bets are off.

DAN L., To the best of my knowledge the SGII has non-volatile RAM. For that same reason, when you buy the gauge from Oemy he can program it and send it to you in the mail. I can guarantee you that the mailed SGII will be in the mail for more than 12 hours.

Look for another point of failure other than the length of time that the battery was disconnected. Question would be IS the battery connected properly and is the OBDII connector seated properly? Check the RJ45 connection on the unit.

Unless the Gauge failed or it was reset I can't see the point of failure as to why the gauge would not display.

the display works: top line says ''connecting'', second line says ''trip'' on left, ''more'' on right.
disconnecting and reconnecting the obdll plug is no help. the battery is properly connected, and the connections are clean and tight. with a light load on it the battery is showing 12.0v with the ignition sw. on accessory and the defroster fans running. i charge the chassis battery with a battery maintainer every night.
next time i disconnect the chassis battery, i will use jumpers to keep the chassis circuits live and i will pull the obdll plug for sure.
i did get a small arc when disconnecting and reconnecting the negative battery terminal.

The SGII on my unit is always scanning. With the key OFF you can see the LCD light up for about 5 to 10 seconds and then it goes off perhaps for 30 minutes or so. It doesn't bother me any more so I just let it have it's own way.

All total this does comprise some of the parasitic load on the battery. Disconnecting the SGII for extended storage would be my preference. I too use a BatteryMINDer (a big one) and it's normally connected 24/7.

Turn the key to the ON position. The key has to be on so the SG II can establish communications with the ECM before it can display anything.

A cigarette lighter plug already wired to a 9 volt battery can be purchased from Walmart Automotive for less than $5. Check by the battery rack in any Walmart that installs batteries/tires.

turning the ignition sw on for 15 min had no effect, it still says ''connecting''.

I would plug it into another car with OBD2 to see if it is the SG II. You could have a bad OBD2 connector, a bad cable etc.

Dan, I'm no computer Geek, but this sounds like a software issue. Like when something in my computer causes it to not find the printer or other device
Need to go to the control panel or reload a driver for the items to start talking to each other again.

Dick.

I pulled my chassis battery out last year and took the old one in for a core exchange. I had it out about 1 1/2 hrs. Installed the new battery and never lost anything on my scan gauge. It might be the B.I.R.D. unit on my Newmar doing something to keep power on my Scan gauge11.

Don't ask me what the B.I.R.D. does-
