Screaching noise coming from engine area

Hi, I have a screaching noise coming from the engine area, most noticable with the engine in 6th gear and going about 50-60 mph under slight exceleration. I don't believe it's a pulley issue, as it goes away occasionally. It sounds like a loud screaching high pitched noise.....maybe some type of sensor??

My guess. Serpentine belt and/or belt tensioner. If you replace the tensioner get the Gates one.

I did replace the belt tensioner with a Gates when I replaced the belt. It's not a belt or tensioner issue.

Replace them both and be done with it.

As you can see by my posts, I have replaced both.

Any more suggestions?

Look at the rest of the accessories that are driven via the serpentine belt.

One of the other spots is the bearing on the a.c. pump. Mine went out,it was not there all the time. The bearing can be replaced very cheaply. No need to replace the whole unit.

Will the AC pump bearing screach when the AC is off?

Pull the engine cover and drive it. Might be good to take someone along that can get down there and listen.

MntDriver, yes on the pump bearing it is always working when engine running. If it seizes up it will ruin the compressor. I would change it to be safe.

On ours the pulley freewheels when the AC is off and locks up when on. If the squeal comes and goes without regard to whether the air is on or not then it's somewhere else!!

There are known squealing problems with some belts too.

On our rig it seems to emanate from the DW's mouth when I get too close to a drop off or other vehicle. Got really bad on the road from Fishing Bridge going out the East entrance of Yellowstone!!

So the general consensus would be that the screeching noise is some type of pulley bearing....maybe the AC bearing? (I still hear it when I turn the AC on and off).

I thought pulley; but, Workhorse kindly solved my noise with a Goodyear Gatorback. Make sure you get the correct size by crossing the exact numbers on existing belt.

These Goodyear Gatorback Poly-V serpentine belts run quieter, stretch less, and transfer more power than other belts. As they warm up, the composite construction between the cords and rubber compound becomes more efficient at turning your engine's accessories. And by absorbing the shock and vibration transmitted from the crank pulley, the belts can help your harmonic damper to better reduce harmful vibrations.

I had originally thought it was the belt and the tensioner, and had them both replaced last year, and the screeching noise is still there like I have posted.
