Just stopped outside Lincoln, NE Came through major storms. Tornados in area.
Have a loud screeching noise coming from engine area. Sometimes it stops briefly. Seems to also stop if I put AC on. Seems like it is belt, pully or related to the use of the AC. Could storm water have affected something? Vbelt is new.
I came through some very high winds and hail. Stopped at RV park for the night.

Sounds like your AC clutch may not be completely dis-engaging when the AC system is not operational....that was a very common occurence years ago on many vehicles. If it is the AC clutch, they will make a gosh-awful squealing noise...but normally when cycling on/off during normal AC operation. Perhaps you picked up a bunch of dust recently, and that, combined with normal AC clutch dust, can cause the squeal. If it is that, you may be able to blow it out with compressed air....but go easy. If not, you will have to remove the clutch assy, clean it out and reinstall. Not difficult, but a bit tedious and time-consuming. Please let us know what you find out....goood luck.

Had that happen to my 2004 F250 Diesel....Turbo/ERG valve had a leak...the "screech" was the boost partially escaping when I was going up hills.....Just in case that applies......Easy fix, dealer had it done in one day on a Saturday in Paso Robles...

I would suspect the AC belt got wet. The water on the belt caused it to slip and screech. Check the tension on the belt. It might just need to be tightened. If the pulley sides of the belt look glazed it would be time for a new belt.

Problem solved. here is the scenerio:
While crossing Wyoming came into terrible storm with lots of dust before the rain came. I am thinking the dust might have initiated the problem. A couple hours later I stopped and turned off AC to hear one horrible very loud screeching noise. I learned that if AC engaged noise stopped.
next day noise was less but still present. Today I decided to stop in Laramie and have GM dealer fix the problem. since I spent the night the engine was cool when got to dealer and noise was subdued. Mechanic misdiagnosed problem when he decided that the pully that is spring loaded for tension was going bad and had a wobble. That way be but when he replaced it and my new but now shinny belt the noise was still there.
Now the mechanic could not find an Ac compressor because they had issues cross referencing WH parts. So he looked at the cmpressor and could see that the compressor plate was touching the hub when the AC is disengaged. There is supposed to be a few millimeters space present. He tried using a special tool to spread them apart however when he reinstalled the gap closed again when the belt was put on.
They tried to find a coil replacement and then came upon a compressor at Advanced Auto Parts. All that was needed was to remove high pressure plug from old compressor and put on the new one.
All this took about 6-7 hours elapsed time. I think billable hours was about four.
I have a service contract I bought from the dealer provided by Camper World. It is excellent. No hassle and they covered all but belt and $50 deductible. The warranty contract paid them about $950.
This Laramie dealer is very friendly and accomodating. It took too long but all understandable to me. They are listed on the WH website and I will give them an excellent rating.
Next time there is a dust storm I will stop immediatly, just makes sense not to drive through all that. I imagine my Air filter is loaded with dust too and what fun that is to access.
Many thanks to those who provided guidance on this website.

Thanks for letting us know what the outcome was. I might be changing my AC compressor also because of a rattle noise when engaged and was wondering what it would cost. Looks like I need to come up with a thousand.

Well Last week I removed our 2003 Monaco from its winter nest and took it to the Rv place R/R RV on I 90 in Wa. They did the brake recall. When I drove it there the sqeal started and stopped. They replaced the serpentine belt for 259$. My portion of the recall was 2100 $. I still have the squeal during initial startup and a few seconds more? Drove it to alaska last year with NO issues. The mysterious squeal $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Jim

I mean the squeal was there on initial startup and then it stopped. They replaced the serpentine belt because they felt it was cracked to bad ???Every serpentine belt I ever looked at on the run side is cracked shortly after new. I have never heard of a serpentine belt squeal though actually I thought thats why that type belt was developed. Since then I took a air hose and blew lots of rust looking dust from the compressor and that seem to help. Yes I think they made a few extra bucks on the belt change, but the cost for those 4 rotors was staggering, I hope the replacements are not of the same quality. Thanks for listening Jim

JIM: Sorry I was not more specific. My "what" question and comment was regarding the cost of the brake job. SELECT Workhorse dealers were susposed to agree to perform a complete brake components replacement job for NMT $1500.00, incl tax, shop fees, etc. Ed
