I replaced my serpentie belt with a new Dayco (recomended by the dealer) and all is well. But I want to warn those that think that this is a piece of cake to replace...you'e wrong. We had to enlist a tropp of circus dwarfs to help. It took forever.

Was the old belt worn or cracked was it the cause of the squeek, an I thought it was warranty for 100,000. Had to change belt on old 460 like you said not much fun.

yeah...a 100,000 miles. I think they added a zero or two to that number. Mine started squeaking at 11,000. Now in fairness I never saw a crack or split. It was VERY flexible. More flexible than the replacement. All I know is that when I hit it with lube it silenced the squeak INSTANTLY. There was no way it was a bearing on one of the accesories being turned. The lube never had a chance to get in there. When it sat for a day or two the squeak returned just as loud as before. The Dayco belt was $30.00 and after the circus troop of dwarfs helped me change it...the squeak was gone and has remained gone.
It's interesting that both the Dayco and the Goodyear Gatorback belts are of a different designs from the stock belt. The GM belt is just ribbed. The Dayco and Gooyear have a block design.

Does the new belt have any king of warranty? I know I have had to change my belt twice already, workhorse stepped up and did it. But if it is indeed the belt then if I have the problem again I would be interested in changing. Could you give the particulars on the belt? I glad you found the problem with the squeal.

Yep, the Dayco has a 1 year warranty and is 103 inches

What was so hard about changing the belt. I helped change mine with the servcie tech. He laid under the MH and pushed the belt up. All I did was help from above to line it up a little. Took less than a 1/2 hour.

Is this problem still occuring with the newer units ?

I don't think it was so much as a problem, that I am aware of, than a nusience type of occurance. My first belt problem was oil being poured on the belt. A service guy missed the fill spout and drenched the belt. The second was an unusal occurance, possibly still oil driping from various places around that area again from the missed quart of oil that went everywhere but in the fill spout.
