On my current trip from SC to NJ, been raining most of the trip. Now three times the engine/transmission "shuddered" and the light comes on. I do not lose power.

Stop, check everything, all ok...after 15 minutes of engine not running, starts up, light is off.

Have ran in rain before, never a problem...any thoughts?

Here was my entry in my My Daily Trip Journal yesterday on the sequence of events:

Been cruising between 60 and 65 this whole trip.

Was passing someone at 65 in rain, as I passed, engine or transmission shuddered, check engine light came on. It was still running normally, but light stayed on.

Pulled off at SOUTH OF THE BORDER, refueled, restarted engine, light still on.

Found a place to park, called Workhorse Roadside Assistance, ultimately got to a service tech, said light can come on for many things, needs to be checked. Will call me back w/service locations.

I went outside, checked all vital fluid levels, all ok. Started it back up and light was off. Got call back as I was test driving, two closest service centers, both closed till Monday.

Got back on I-95 NB, cruised for a while at 60 mph, no problem or lights...pushed it to 65, shudders occasionally when taxed/laboring, otherwise ok, no check engine light comes on. (yet, anyway)

Guess I'll cruise at 60 mph and see how things go...not sure where to stop for the night, original plans are out. FUN NEVER STOPS

On Edit - After thinking about the circumstances and what I've read about it online, I believe water was taken in through the air intake tuba (they call it that, looka like a small tuba end) and got to the MAF sensor...this caused the shudder and the light to come on...I had another shudder when testing running it around 65 mph, then as the road dried out and the rain stopped, no more problem. I ran it long at 65 mph, even a few minutes ar 70 mph, no problem, no light...don't think it will be a recurring problem, I think as I passed the SUV it threw water up because it was raining so hard, and it flew into the intake. Time will tell.

Replace the air filter, clean the MAF, and install a new set of wires...

Hasn't been a good day since I got home...still pouring rain, I spilled a Pepsi all over this notebook, just starting to come back to life...

Now the light won't go off, seemed to feel a little more sluggish the last 50 miles of the trip...thanks Dale for the suggestions.

Will a code reader tell me something exact on where the problem is?

GERRY: Sorry about the laptop, but "maybe" the info in THIS THREADwill help you with the problems expressed in your original post. See my reply about the fourth from the top, as I believe it may address your problem.
Good luck, ED

ED, I think you are correct with that post. I believe a lot of water ingestion is at that location, not down the snorkel. It isn't the most secure joint.

Don't know why I cannot edit or delete my own posts...anybody know how to correct that?

Just had my neighbor professional mechanic check the codes...only one code found:

P0102 - MAF circuit low input

The voltage at the time of the error was 0.19V

I plan on opening/inspecting the box and air cleaner, changing the air filter and inspecting/cleaning the MAF sensors...

Any more suggestions?

One of the things I like about my car is where GM put the MAF sensor 100 Percent RAIN proof.

Page 2: On the workhorse however it's not so well located

If the air intake is tight (no cracks or breaks) then one hopes that the thing would never suck in rain water. However some bodies (Coach designs) it does, and when it does the MAF sensor fails

Beyond that (Since mine is a design that runs fine in the rain) I can not tell you.

Gerry: The administrators of iRV2.com have changed the edit feature. You now have 15 minutes after making a post to go back and edit your typos, etc. There is a more complete explanation HERE.

Ed,

This just another stumbling block for the honest posters. Just like the photo post approval. I don't post photo's on the IRV2 photo site to anymore... I now use Photobucket.

See my post over in the Tech Support Forum.

DALE: I've already read your other post, and have notified ADMIN of your dis-pleasure. Watch for a PM if I get an answer.

I fully understand your frustration....it must be very difficult being able to think so much faster than you can type! ED

I'm still trying to comprehend how this seems to be a common problem (water intrusion fouling the air filter and the MAF sensors), but Workhorse just turns their back on the customer and this design problem, it really is despicable.
