Leaking Bilstein Shocks are covered by a lifetime warranty and replacing those with Monroe Magnums is a futile exercise. I completely wore out a set of Monroe Magnums in 30,000 miles. If you're doing this job, do it right the first time.

Go with aftermarket Bilsteins or a Koni FSD.

The Correct MONROE for your Chassis is:
Monroe 65482 Gas-Magnum 65 Shock Absorber

These are really great shocks and will out ride and out last any Bilsteins made (at a substantial price savings to boot!).

ARROWVP38, Winnebago did not make a 38G in 2007, perhaps you might have a 38J on a W24.

Mutha, That's an amazing endorsement since in your experience you must have worn out or had installed 3 separate shocks absorber sets to compare one against the other.

Unfortunately, I am unable to provide feedback on Bilsteins other than to say that they can be replaced for free. (lifetime warranty) Therefore I would say that it's probably cautious to say that this would be a substantial price savings as well.

Note on Bilsteins: The OE Bilsteins are much more firm that shocks sold by after market vendors for Workhorse applications.

Yes I have replaced/sold every type, make, and application of shocks you could ever imagine. Many that are no longer even made.

Only the AFTERMARKET Bilsteins have this warranty - so you have to purchase the shocks at a very high price (double that of the Monroes) in order to get the warranty, as well as save all the original paper work, etc..

In that case you are really buying separate part numbers and separate applications - not really an "apples to apples" comparison.

Best to you - Glenn

I expect that you have. I believe that you correct about the lifetime warranty on OE shock absorbers so I will defer to your expertise.

Aftermarket Bilsteins are the mid-priced shock now days and those have been seen beginning at $89.00 or perhaps lower. I think this would be an easy decision to go with these shocks since most folks will want to upgrade their equipment given the slight up charge from a Monroe.

In my experience, I completely wore out to uselessness a set of 4 Monroe RV Magnum shock absorbers in 30,000 miles. I installed this set of shocks as the 1st replacement to the Monroe designed black shocks that originally came on the W22 in 2003. When I removed the RV Magnums, both rebound and dampening motions were practically zero just like the original black shocks.

We have seen where shock towers have been ripped of W18 (18,000 GVWR) frames. The rivets that hold your towers in place should be visually inspected and you may want to go as far as to grab the mount and see if you can move it at all with a plier or other mechanical tool.

That said, the shock absorber should not contribute to a potential mechanical failure with the mounting when using the rated shock absorber for the application.

LINK:
Monroe Commercial Vehicle On-Line Catalog

Go to RV Catalog, then CHEV P-30/32. If you want heavier duty go to the TRUCK Catalog.

Monroe also has a Support number that you can call and talk to a engineer if necessary.

Good Luck - Glenn

don't believe that Bilstein makes a shock for the W24 any longer, at least I can't find the part # at various online sellers...

It's the same as a W22. No difference.
