Photo from Redlands Truck & RV Performance Center.
When an engine needs to be changed the vehicle is jacked up and everything under the engine is removed including the axle and steering gear. Once those components are out of the way the engine or the entire power train can be lowered as a unit.
This is the second time that I have seen this done. I think it would be a lot of fun to get your hands on this type of operation from cradle to grave.

Max, On a P Series I bet it would definitely be a challenge.

I remember a few years ago, a guy up the street from me did this very thing. He dropped the front suspension on a P-30 Southwind, and changed out a Chevy 454 engine in his back yard, in the DIRT!!!

Why don't they just unscrew the oll drain plug instead of taking the motor out and turning it upside down to change the oil???

It must cost big bucks, just to remove and reinstall the engine. Did you ask that question?

My 8.1 engine replacement was 65 hours. Out the passenger side window.

And I just thought that if you opened the hood, chained the engine to something stout, and backed up the engine would come out on it's own?
