My MH did not come with a spare and I just don't feel right traveling without one on my next 9 day journey.

Looking on line I have not found a good source for a wheel. And I would rather not buy new and spend $300 before the tire. I would settle for a used one with some rubber on it, over having nothing when the ERS truck arrives. And if need be, changing these 19.5's is no problem for me. I just want something to get me to the next tire shop where I can pair up my replacement and swap out the spare.

Can anyone provide a link to a source for a wheel--new or used? Are there RV salvage yards that I could check? Could a truck salvage yard be a source? What truck would use the WH chassis with 10-lug 19.5s?

Thanks for your help.

GW,

I just bought a spare tire, spiral-wrapped it in plastic and used three two-inch nylon cargo straps with ratchets to mount it. It fits nicely between the extended frame rails behind my rear axle.

The ERS guy's gonna have all the tools to change the tire on a wheel.

Thanks Ding,

I like the idea of mounting it up out of the way. I have that same spot under my rig that will work nicely.

If I had 22.5's like you, I would go without the wheel and do the same as you. But if I can find a wheel for this trip, I would feel a little more in control.

GL, I have access to some OEM 19.5 Take-offs from some 2003 WCC chassis. The Factory Wheels are 8 Lug on the 19.5's on the 20,000 & 22,000 lb. chassis. These have the factory installed Michelin XRV 245/70R/19.5 LRF. The DOT date is 0403 (made the 4th week of 2003), with about 8000 to 10,000 miles on them, some less than that. They are in EXCELLENT shape and would make great spares. They are located in Dallas, Texas and are for sale at $200 ea. plus actual shipping cost. There was originally 3 sets of six - 18 total tires and wheels, I have not been by the suppliers facility in a few weeks, so I do not know exactly how many are left, if any, but if you are interested please contact me at: Phone= 972-542-9696 or email: glenn@oem-engineering.com, and I will check for you, (or anyone that might be interest in a OEM 19.5 WCC spare tire & wheel assembly).

Regards - Glenn

EDIT: 06-05; Corrected Chassis size reference to 8 Lug Wheels.

Hey Glenn. That sounds like a fair price for a wheel and tire. However, my rig has the 10 lug pattern on the 19.5" wheels. This makes me wonder if this could be the reason I am having a tough time finding one.

Thanks anyway.

GW: Below is a paste from the chassis guide. My formatting is not perfect, but you can find ALL the info on page 33 of the guide. I've attempted to delete all the stuff NOT pertaining to your P series. Hope this helps.

The P Series 12,300 lb. chassis have 8 hole wheels with 9/16" wheels studs, 1" lug nut and
require 140 lb. ft. torque. These wheels have a 2,440 lb. wheel capacity. The 14,800 lb., 15,000
lb., 16,500 lb., 17,000 lb., and 18,000 lb. chassis have 10 hole wheels with 5/8" studs, 1" lug
nut and requires 175 lb. ft. torque.

Both front and rear wheels have a 10 hole bolt pattern for
proper tire rotation, although the front axle only utilizes 5 holes and the rear all 10 holes.
This is due to the differences in carrying capacity, single compared to dual wheels, and the rear
axle is the driving axle. Prior to the wide track suspension the wheels had a 2,760 lb. wheel
capacity. All wide track suspension, which begin in 2000 model year, and the 14,800 lb. chassis
starting on 1/21/02 have a 3,000 lb. capacity.
Workhorse has utilized three wheel suppliers Accuride, Maxion and Alcoa. Accuride provided
all 19.5" steel wheels until 1/21/02 and the 22.5" steel wheels until 2/18/02. After those dates
all chassis with 19.5" and 22.5" were standard with Maxion wheels. Alcoa manufactures all
aluminum wheels utilized on our chassis. The following chart provides part numbers for the
most current wheels utilized.

P Series
14,800 lb. to 18,000 lb. 19.5X6.00 Gray, Steel part # W1000011 Mfg=Maxion 3,000lb capacity

P Series
15,000 lb. to 18,000 lb. 19.5X6.00 Gray, Steel part # W0001009 Mfg=Accuride 3,000lb capacity

GW - My bad! I assumed you had a 20,000 to 22,000 lb chassis. I called my friend and he gave me the stampings off of one of the wheels:
MAXION
Made in Brazil
12-11-02
19.5 X 6.75
LOT 9796
W0002404

These are 8 Lug, Hub Pilot Diameter 221.1mm(8.701"), 275mm Bolt circle, 5.60 WHEEL OFFSET, 4 HAND HOLE, 5000 MAXIMUM LOAD RATING. He currently has 9 left.
The ACCURIDE comparable part # is 28680

Ed thanks for your post clarifying the different wheels used on the lower than 20,000 Lb. Chassis.

Best to all - Glenn

When you get your tire, be sure you put a lock on it. I made that mistake and mine was stolen and I didn't know it until I had a blow out.
I would never travel without a spare.
