How is the shield removed? how can you remove the spk plg wire without just pulling the wire off? i read i belive in one of the post that you should twist the wire, so it wouldn't come apart. am i right in thinking the spark plug holds the shield in place? and comes off as you remove the spark plug.

When I removed my wires, the metal heat shields came off with the plug boots. I just pulled them straight off by grabbing the boot and wire after I twisted them first to try to get them loose. The shields are not attached to the plugs, but had an internal coil to center them on the base of the plug as I remember. They are a snug fit over the plug boot. After installing new plugs, I reused the shields on my new Taylor Spiro Pro wires and they fit just like on the factory wires. Use dielectric grease between plug and boot.

When you remove the heat shields check them to see if they show any indication of high temps. The inside of the heat shield should be dark orange. Also, if you plan to install the Taylor Extremes you will probably NOT be able to install the heat shields as the covers now go over he spark plug boot.

They make a tool that hooks on the end of the boot to remove the plug wires without without damaging the wires.

Yep.... Got one and it is almost worthless on the WH wires.

When installing Taylor Extremes, should I put the metal cover over the boot, just like the original and just push the heat shield material up over the wires? It seems that the metal covers would be better next to the manifold than the material covers.

Taylor actually recommends to remove the factory heat shield as there is a possibility that it could cause issues with their heat sock.

So it sounds like the recommended way is to push the heat sock down around the rubber connector where the metal shield used to be. This could put it in contact with the manifold as it doesn't fit as tight to the connector as the metal shield, The new Taylor rubber connectors seem just the same as on the original wires. What do you think?
