Thanks for joining us here in the Workhorse Motorhome Forum and we appreciate your viewpoint and experience.

About your oil consumption, you are ahead of the curve in that regard since as you said you consumed 2 Qts of oil within 2500 miles. This in my experience is normal as I also consume oil at about the rate of 1 quart per 1200 or so miles. Considering that you burnt ~357~ gallons of gasoline, you might have consumed 3.6 quarts of oil however you only consumed 2 qts. This was calculated at an average of 7 MPG.

Could we get pictures of your spark plugs just to see what they look like? Plug fouling due to oil may indicate some type of issue with the engine although we rarely see this in practice and it is rare to see oil fouled plugs due to mechanical damage.

I am just going through the Spark Plug problem and am getting no where with either the dealer Workhorse or Newmar it seems to me to be a WELL known and documented problem and is indeed a design flaw. It needs to be resolved by both companys as a recall/repair and corrected at no cost to the owner. I dont understand the lack of concern and willingness to get this issue taken care of and resolved once and forall.

air cool kit

PhilnJune if you go on link Workhorse supplies a kit to feed more cool air to spark plug wires involved. Workhorse has installed for customers with continued problems.
When I replaced my spark plugs and wires the wires were as good as new and easy to replace.
Do you have a good air dam around radiator and most Newmars I have seen have wide open wheel wells so no hot air gets trapped in engine compartment to burn the back wires.

Welcome PAULK to irv2
For a 2006 coach sounds like you are using alot of oil. All my coachs Ford or Workhorse never burned oil after brakein period. Have they put in proper oil and no leaks showup or oil in antifreeze? If like you say no problems with your other WH's there has to be something they should find with this coach. I have read Google and like I say have never had major oil useage problems as others here haven't also.
Hope they find out whats going on let us know how your making out.

Why should I pay to replace them again and then suffer the added expense of putting in an air dam when It is a known design flaw between WH and Newmar/numerous other Coach MFGs. The Problem is well documented on this forum and needs to be addressed by the WH and the MFGs.

Regarding burnt plug wires is it isolated to one or two motorhome manufacturers or is it inherent on most 8.1 Workhorse chassis?

Thanks DriVer for your input.
I have not had any problems with mine and I have 9500 miles on it.

I burnt 4 plug wires in the first 10,000 miles. After the installation of the vent kit I have traveled another 12,000 miles with no failures.

Plug wire failures may occur at temperatures of 450? and above. At 5 mph the CAK provides up to 50? less of temperature differential which can pull down a spot that might achieve 475? to 425? which would be below the failure threshold.

WH has replaced my plug wires 3x in 16K miles. This time, they also installed the cool air kit. Looking forward to lower wires-per-trip ratio! Thanks to Lee at Guaranty Chev in Santa Ana for getting WH authorization beyond warranty period. Otherwise, 8.1 sure is a nice power plant!
