Is it OK to use the spin-on NAPA filter on this 1000 transmission. Have been using their engine oil filters for years. We're way out of warrenty at 40,000 miles. I know about the magnet. Thanks, Richard

I used a Wix, don't remember the number right now. Most parts stores will recommend the same filter they sell for Chevy trucks equipped with Allison trans.

RICHARD: May I suggest you check your owner's manual. I think you will find that Allison warrants your tranny for 100,000 miles. The Allison filter (PN 29539579) is ~$10.00 at an Allison dealer, much higher at Chevy/GMC dealers. ED

Ed, we've got the 02 chassis in service date of 12-12-02 and never did change to transyend oil, so I think we are only covered for 3yr or 36,000 miles. We do have a service contract good for a couple more years with Easy Care. Think I"ll see if can find an Allison dealer and get one for $10, GM dealers do want $31 here in Paris TX. Richard

I got one from an Allison dealer and only paid six or seven dollars for it.

Buy the filter from 6 to 10 dollars. A NAPA Gold filter if one is available should work just fine.
The GM filter @ $20.00 is a bit too steep considering you can get a genuine Allison for almost half price.

I am currently using NAPA Gold oil and fuel filters. I don't believe it gets much better than that.

The NAPA Filter is #7701, which by the way NAPA's filters are made by WIX. The WIX Part # is 57701.

several of us have been advising about the price difference for several years now. A trip to an Allison dealer or distributor, will save you $$, unless you really want that AC Delco box. The box appears to be the only difference. ED
