The chassis battery is dead, disconnected or has dirty cable connections.

If it has a chassis battery disconnect, make sure its connecting.

A little more info please.
Does it crank but not start or not even crank on the chassis battery?

Have you checked the battery connections on the engine and measured the voltage of the battery for the engine?

Will not turn over no dash gauges nothing until you use the boost switch. When I let off the boost it dies.

I had that happen on my 1997 Bounder when driving down the road at 60 MPH! Had to run the generator so that the isolation relay would automatically close so I could drive without my finger on the boost switch.

You need to check all the connections on chassis battery, including the ground at the chassis. On mine it was a cracked lug on the chassis battery.

I am assuming that the chassis battery is good.

I'm wondering if the battery is dead AND the alternator isn't producing power, because I think, once running, the alternator "should" keep the engine running even with a dead battery. As you have found, keeping the house batteries involved allows the engine to keep running, and that should not be required if the alternator is making power. Can you check the alternator output while the house batteries keep the engine running?

My cutoff switch went bad a year ago. Plastic disintegrated. It was the round one and a PIA to replace.

After I installed the new one I added a Knife blade cutoff switch right on the battery terminals and use it instead of the new round switch which is plastic and bound to fail again.
