Starting problems

Hi all
I have a 2000 Rexhall American Clipper 26' with a chevy 454 motor, the dash is all Chevy according to the manual.
I have run into a problem that I have never heard of before and could really use your help.
While on a trip, we got about half way and spent the night in a camp ground in Nebraska, when we were ready to leave the next morning I turned the ignition key to the on position getting ready to start the motor, I found that there were no gauge lights and gauges did not work, I turned the key to the start position and the starter turned the motor over but it would not start. After about 10 seconds with the key still in the on position all of the gauges and light came on and the motor would start. Almost all of the time now I have to wait for a few seconds with the key in the on position before I can start the motor.
Has anyone run into this problem or any suggestions on how to fix this problem.
Thanks for all of you help and info.
Jim

Check the connections at the battery, and the ground wire connection from the rear of the engine to ground. Don't just look at the ground connection, take them off and clean them.

You might want to review this post. The ignition switch burning out is a common failure that you may be experiencing.
