I just noticed I had a new recall campaign for "steering shaft". My workhorse center hadn't heard of it. Is anyone aware of what this one entails? The local center said that Workhorse gave them 30 minutes r/r time. Doesn't sound like very much time to me.

Have heard nothing. Is it specific to W20?

I just checked my coach on workhorse.com and I have the steering shaft recall listed in the campaigns. I have a W22 chassis, so I guess it covers at least the W20 and W22. I am sure it goes by VIN, so not all of both models are necessarily covered. Fortunately I have to take it in for my IP so it's not a total inconvenience. One trip, one warranty service, the workhorse motto!

I will take mine in today and see what they say this recall involves. If it needs a part, well it will be 30 minutes to install and a week to get the part.

Yep, just checked Workhorse.com, and mine has the campaign no. 20601-C, Steering Intermediate Shaft.

I wont take mine in until after the Summer is over as it has been in the shop too long already....

I wonder how bad this recall is, safety wise, as I obviously havent been notified officially, and if I weren't a member of Workhorse.com, I wouldn't have known about it...

Must be for newer coaches. I was just on the Workhorse site and my coach has no "outstanding activity". I've got an '04 on a W-20...

My contact at the WH shop that I use mentioned to me recently that they expected a recall to install a zerk fitting on some part of the steering column.

Well Freddy, if that's truly what this is all about, here's the Z-bar and "how to do it":

Zerk on Brake Z-bar

Yep, that was it. Been as long time since he told me that, but he did mention a possible later recall for this mod as well. He said that WH had been authorizing the installation on a case by case basis. Since I had not had a problem, he couldn't do it for me "yet."

I picked up my southwind today. They inspected the steering shaft and said mine was not one that needed to be fixed. When asked, all they said was that the splines were not right on the steering shaft.

Thanks Rocky 2. -Well, we're all still waiting for the "truth" on this 'recall'. If it's spline-related on the sector shaft, then we're not talking about a retrofit for a grease zerk on the z-bar...
