Was wondering if it hurts to turn off the over drive when descending a grade with the cruise control on??

I usually travel with CC on, and when I come to an uphill that I know will cause a downshift I switch off OD to keep the engine RPM up. In this case, the CC always stays active.
Never thought about it going downhill. Usually, I get out of CC first, then get out of OD, then downshift as needed. If the downhill is steep, this usually all happens at once.

Supercub, If I start down a moderate descent I frequently switch off the OD while leaving the CC on. The Allison transmission will freewheel in OD and if I find I am picking up too much speed, I switch off the OD to get some engine braking. As I reach the bottom and my speed approaches the CC set speed (before the CC calls for throttle to maintain the set speed), I stitch OD back on. By leaving the CC on I do not loose my setting and I'm ready to go again as I reach the bottom.
As others have said, it's usually better not to use OD in the mountains. On a steep descent I will use the engine brake switch and disengage the CC.

Well, I use the Allision Grade Brake coming down the mountain when I come... (UR, that was "ROUND" the way it was originally sung)
You can not use the grade brake and the CC at the same time,,, so.
