If your not happy with your WH chassis unit, what would be your alternative gas class A?

I have followed the WH forum fairly close for the past year, and have come to some conclusions, (my opinion only).

Most of us bought a gasser Class A as it fit our needs. In my case I didn't need something good for a few hundred thousand miles, wife was more comfortable with gasser when she drove and liked the floorplan, we don't need to carry the entire house, and the new price fit the budget ,etc.

Have read the comments by some stating they should not have, or never again will buy a WH chassis. At the time, my only alternative would have been another Ford. I traded one that I had to repair and replace the spark plug which blew out of the head and the replace the head the second time. The transmission was severely inadequate and the unit handled poorly. New I had to replace the shocks and beef up the sway bar. Some was warranty work and some I paid.I already tried the alternative and didn't enjoy it.

Many state they should have bought a DP. If it fit your needs and price range, then you should have , but my guess is a DP didn't fit your criteria at the time.

Some say their units have no resale or trade in value. Look at the economy, no vehicles are doing well. Then if someone ventures here asking about WH chassis purchase, they are greeted with don't, would never buy again, run from the deal fast. This just lessens the customer base for trade in or private sale. Don't tell people not to buy WH then complain about no used value.

I have read here that WH, Bosch, Navistar, and a few other companies are going bankrupt at one time or another. With rumors running rampant I'm surprised someone doesn't have NHTSA going under because of the government deficit. Must be a lot of accountants with inside information on this board. Most seemed to have missed predicting GM going belly up though, so much for their track record.

It has been stated here that WH should merly rubber stamp and pay all submitted claims. WH and NHTSA seem to have agreed on the reimbursement rules and not everyone fits the criteria. If you were wrongly denied, I believe, NHTSA is the place to complain

I read that WH should reimburse for aftermarket or non WH calipers, haven't read of anyone who has found or is using any, so the point is moot.

Everyone want's new calipers now. WH can't do anything until Bosch has them designed, tested , approved , and manufactured. Maybe we could demand Bosch put on a night shift.

There is much informative and constructive commentary written here but many times people are just beating the horse after the race is over just to be argumentative.

Again this is just my opinion and I know my alternative would be another WH. I will get my new calipers when the recall is instituted.

George

Love my Workhorse UFO chassis and wouldn't hesitate to buy another Workhorse chassis.

Couldn't agree anymore with your post George have had both chassis and there is no other alternative if your budget is a gasser. Had the Fords under 4 coach's bad manifolds and they couldn't support the box I like.
Workhorse came on line as the chassis to have because it was designed for the support of the many box's that MFG's were putting out.
It has lived up to that but not without problems such as front end porpoise and sway and water getting suck-in the TUBA, but after market fixes took care of that.
The chassis is still the best in my book and latest W-24, 25.5 would be a upgrade for me.
Brake problems will show up with either chassis without PM, with the recalls eventually done how many will be back here with brake problems again.

I feel that many do not understand how the recall process works, nor do they understand the manufacturing and testing process that is required by the government. I can understand the anger and frustration of those whom are unable or are afraid to enjoy their motorhome. I guess allowing them to vent their anger and not criticizing them for doing so is the best I can do.
I am not going to change my travel plans just because something might or might not happen. Would I buy another Workhores chassis ? In a New York minute.

Speaking about a "New York" minute, the USS New York is maneuvering up the Hudson River as we speak for a port call. As you may recall the New York's keel is comprised of steel that was obtained from the giant beams of the World Trade Center.

Roger, I wouldn't touch that #009 post with a 10 foot pole. You're only being baited into a downward spiraling black hole. The PM issue just sucks the life out of things like the aforementioned black hole absorbing all the matter around it. Do not approach the "Event Horizon!"

I know! I've been there!

Weve come to expect as much. No worries. I think if it was just pm's nhtsa wouldnt have issued this recall.

No thought processes required, you're absolutely 100% correct! If it were just a mattter of PM there wouldn't be a recall.

When was the last time you did brake PM on your car? How long do you expect the brakes to last on your car?

Wrong is Wrong
