After bragging too much about not having brake problems in almost 2 years, my front left caliper got tight today. A carry a spare caliper so I felt like the good boy scout. The problem/question I have is about the new slide pins provided with the new caliper. The trailing pin (the one with the rubber) was so tight I decided not to use it. The old pin seemed just fine. Should I have used the new, tight pin?

Thanks

I would use the old pin if it looked good. Don't want anything tight when it comes to "those" brakes.

Scott: was the "old pin" you reused from a ZOH-T caliper, or the earlier ZOPS calipers? I'm thinking they are not interchangeable, but wanted to ask just in case I'm wrong about that. I have no idea why the new TP would have been so tight you chose not to use it. Sorry, ED

Ed, I just returned from a trip to Destin that went flawless. Perfect weather, water, food, friends, family AND a good running MoHo.

After thinking about this issue I read the directions. You know. "When all else fails, read the directions". Line 11. says to loosen the tie bar bolts that are opposite the caliper guide pins. I didn't do this which, according to the instux, will aid in the new guide pin installation. I guess these are the 6 pt bolts.

Anyway, old pin that I reused was fine thread and had the orange rubber bushing which I think makes it the correct ZOH-T pin.

Thanks for checking!
