I bought a new Hurricane 30Q with the workhorse chassis a little over two months ago. A little over a week ago, on 9 July, it broke down while we were traveling on Highway 98, about 50 miles from Pensacola, Florida. I completely lost power. The dash icon came on with the message of "lost engine power," or some words similar. We were pulled in to Panama city, where a Workhorse service center technician diagnosed the problem as a bad "throttle actuator control module." We waited there about a week before the part arrived to the dealership. After that module was installed, a problem still existed, and the technician said a "power train control module" was also bad. That part is now on order. This experience has really undermined my confidence in the reliability of the engine and drive train. My wife and I bought the coach new in order to do some extensive travel while confident that we had good and reliable equipment. Does anyone have any ideas or thoughts about why these modules would fail? Surely this is not a common occurence. Thanks. Komac

Komac, It is very unusual to have had a problem with one or the other of these modules. A few years back I had a "Reduced Engine Power" and a code was generated and my TACM was replaced. Since then I have not had a repeat problem and it's been years. The problem occurred to me early in my ownership however that module has worked well ever since.

The TCM on your vehicle is the main computer. It controls the engine and the transmission. Although we probably have read here at some point that some one had a bad PCM, again it's a very rare event if one fails. On the Allison equipped chassis we have a TCM (transmission) and an ECM (engine).

I hope that when this service event concludes that you will have few problems if any as you resume your travels.

Note that there are two modules associated with the accelerator - one on the accelerator pedal itself and one on a bracket next to the steering column. The code I got said either of the two modules could be bad. Since I was heading north through some canyons with no good places to pull over, I did something I rarely do and threw parts at the problem and replaced both modules.
