Same old question.

XRVs DOT code 1101 (March 2001) are 7 years old. Do I trust them for another year, or do I bite the bullet and spend $4000 this spring.

Thanks for your opinions,
Mark

Most conservative people on here will probably recommend changing them. I would check if they have sidewall cracking? How many miles on them? You could also have a tire shop inspect them. Chances are they will recommend replacing them. If I were in the business of selling tires, I certainly would.

Fortunately, the government stimulus package is just in time!

Mark: as you obviously already know, tread depth is not a good indicator of "when" to replace RV tires. As Streamerman suggested, have them inspected carefully for signs of sidewall cracking. Michelin's website now says something like 8-10 years life IF properly cared for (inflation and storage). That said, IMO, the price of new tires can be relatively low compared to the potential body damage and roadside expense from a blowout.

FWIW, I was recently quoted $319.00 ea. by CW, but then they add for LOTS of "extras" bringing the total to around $2,600.00 for 6 XRV 22.5" replacements. ED

You can check this video Michelin Tires for further info on your tires.
There is a link to Goodyear in the link to Quick Tips in my signature below.

Tires have 15,000 on them, and minor cracking around the lettering.

Inflation has always been religiously watched. Protected from the sun 75% of the time. Parked on wood in the winter, gravel in the summer.

The $4000 was some poor math on my part. The cheapest I have found for the 22.5 XRVs in central Ohio is $2100 plus tax at a place that does truck tires.

Will Camping World match prices?

Thank you again,
Mark

The first time I ran out of town my outside right leak leaked out its pressure measuring 10 psi on my stick gauge. I was able to limp over to a very close-by Goodyear Truck Tire Center and they changed my valve stem and I was on my way.

Returning to Myrtle Beach I brought this to the attention of the manager and asked him to change all my valve stems, he complied with that request.

The very next time I checked my tires, both stainless steel braided valve extenders were crushed and I was unable to inflate or check the pressures on my inner duals on both sides. I had to go with 6 inch rubber extension valves for the moment to get on the road.

I would be quite mad to consider allowing Camping World future opportunities to work on my coach going forward.

I would much prefer the next time to go to a dedicated truck tire store and get it done the right way the first time.

I picked up my 6 XRVs last year for less than $350 each from Discount Tire. You might try them if they are in your area. I did have to carry them inside my MH to the big tire truck shop about 20 miles away to have them installed however, neither Discount nor any other standard tire shop had the mounting tools or balancer large enough for the 22.5"s.

I paid $2050 for 6 XRVs last summer and that was mounted and balanced. The tire dealer here also has his own Monaco so he knows RV needs.

If any one is a Costco member, they have 235-80R-22.5 XRV tires for 269.95 plus tax. You will have to take them to a truck shop to mount and balance.
