I am buying a 2011 Honda CRV 4 wheel drive. I will tow it 4 wheels down, should the gear shift be in newtrel and the ignition switch be in the ACC position while towing?

As always, double check your manual, but...

Yes, that's how we tow our rear-wheel drive 2010 (Car-V).

You'l also need either to pull a fuse to shut down use of the battery (or install a switch - much easier to deal with) or to add a charge line from MH to the toad.
Again, the particular fuse is listed in the user manual (recreational towing?).

Still in the manual - there is a specific procedure to getting the toad ready to travel: run for a few minutes, use ALL gears, and be SURE to put into neutral FROM Drive. Shifting from Reverse to Neutral and then towing will damage the transmission, according to my manual.

Just thought of a couple of other points, so again I'm sending you to your manual.

1) My manual says to change the transmission fluid every 30K(?) miles. Since the odometer does not register towed miles and this car is very lightly used, I err on the lower side.

2) My car is rear-wheel drive. My old Jeep GC could be put into neutral at the transfer case instead of the transmission. Not sure what Honda wants, but I'd verify that the transmission does not need the fluid circulating when being towed before I went that route.

Couple of things. As mentioned earlier consult the owners manual. If you don't have one you can look it up on the net.
Is this a 4 wheel drive or All wheel drive? I don't know about the FWD but the AWD requires a specific procedure that must be followed and you have a max recommended tow speed of 65MPH.
Also, be sure to have a charge line installed so that the coch keeps the CRV battery charges while towing. That way you don't have to pull any fuses and the coach will power the supplemental brake system.

I've towed my Honda 2011 CRV many miles and have never had battery problems. I use a ReadyBrute tow bar, so I don't use 12 volt power for an aux braking system.
