Towing the car

Hey folks!
Ok, so assuming that everything is healthy with the engine and tranny, and not exceeding GAWRs can I reasonably expect to be able to tow the 99 Subaru legacy (manufacturer says yes to vehicle being towable) behind our 1984 30ft Southwind? What is the rated towing capacity of this rig? Anyone know or have experience with a similar setup? Advice?
Thanks!
Chris

Check the closet doors in the bedroom, there should be a specs. page on one of them. unless it's been removed.

You should get online with fleetwood.com which may help. Also check the recall notices, and see if your vehicle had the service done on it. The site I found info from is
1984 FLEETWOOD SOUTHWIND RECALL FOR TRAILER HITCHES PROBLEM

The recall was in 1985 so it's probably been fixed by now!

Our 2004 Southwind has a 5,000 towing capacity.

HOw heavy is hte Subru?

Towing capacity is the lesser of two things..
1: The hitch rating,, Usually either 5,000 with 500 on the hitch or twice that, Count on the lower number if it's a gasser.

AND

The difference between the loaded for travel weight of the motor home and it's C-G-V-W (Combined Gross vehicle weight) which is hte maximum weight of the "Consist" (Tow vehicle plus trailing vehicle)

ON my gasser, that's 4,000 pounds.. Or one 1992 Chevy Lumina APV (which happens to be exactly 4,000 pounds)

Whatever you tow: Do not forget the brakes.. My choice is the US-Gear Unified Brake Decelerator but the latest from Blue Ox looks interesting if you are in a hurry and/or want a unit you can move from car to car easily. Still I don't like those box systems.

My 83 Southwind on the P chassis hitch was rated at 3500 lbs, that is what most gassers in that era were rated at.
