If you trans filter on your Allison 1000 is not working properly can it cause back pressure in your trans, which in turn causes blow by out the top vent.

You can always get these types of answers directly from an Allison shop or call Workhorse Customer Support.

If the transmission is blowing fluid out of the vent could be that there's too much fluid in the transmission. I just can't give you the best answer here call the sources I quoted.

You might also be able to get the answer from the FAQs on the Allison Website for the T1000 transmission.

The spin on filter works on the fluid in a primary role and should trap large particles such as when the tranny is brand new. There's a magnet on the top of the filter. The tranny also has an internal filter that can only be serviced by Allison I'm told during a rebuild.

The external filter should be changed initially at 5000 miles. Thereafter follow the recommendations in your owner's manual.
