I own a 2004 winnebago sightseer with the allison transmission. I bought it with 8,000 miles on it. It now has 17,000 miles. How often do you change fluid and filters?

Makes a difference, if your towing or not. Recomendations should be in your Workhorse Chassis manual. Personally 20k/2years, check fluid color after every trip.

The external spin on filter needs to be changed at 5k miles so unless previous owner did this, I would change it.

OP, what fluid does it have? If TranSynd then it's a LOT longer than Dexron.

Here's a link to the maintenance info.

That should be the Allison 1000 (WorkHorse Chassis). Same as I have. According to the manual I received change Tranny fluid at 50,000 miles. I converted to Transynd at that time ('04 they did not come from the factory with Transynd - I've been told).

If you have diesel, ignore this message.

Note on the link that Mr_D posted that in addition to the mileage recommendation there is also a time recommendation. Like engine oil you may run out of time before you run out of miles. That's what I bumped up against on mine so I changed it.

Here are the change intervals for TranSynd:
  • 150,000 miles
  • 4,000 Hours
  • 48 months
One must change out the original load of Dexron twice in order to have a good concentratiuon of synthetic fluid. The control filter alos needs to be changed at the same time.
