I have a 2006 W18 chassis with the hydramatic trans with 46,000 miles on it. I want to get the fluid changed. The trans serial # is as follows 616WJPH00000123. Per the chassis guide 2006 models use Dextron VI, 2005 model use Dextron III.
My question is probabably my unit was built in 2005 should I replace with Dextron VI or Dextron III?
When replacing the fluid is it necessary to replace the filter in the trans?
How much fluid would be needed?
I checked Omey's site, I didn't see a part number for the filter. I guess I could pick one up at a Chevy Workhorse service center if needed.

I would go with DEX III since that's the OE recommendation unless you can get a tech to tell you otherwise. Call Jon at Brazels or Keith at Redlands for more info.

At close to 50K miles, I would say it's not a bad idea.

With the bottom pan removed, the schedule calls for 5 Quarts.

Yes, Your Chevy dealer would have access to this filter kit. You should have a 4L85e GM Hydra-Matic transmission.

As driver suggestedI called Jon at Brazels and he said to use Dextron IV when changing the fluid.
Prior to calling Jon I called 2 Chevy Workhorse dealers and they both suggested I use Dextron IV also.
Man I love this web site.

Cacti, I expect that you transposed the Roman Numerals and that you intended, "VI"

You know just as a point of discussion, my 2008 Saturn Vue uses Dexron VI and the transmission is sealed. There isn't even a dip stick!
