We have a 2003 Itasca motorhome, W22 chassis, and allison transmission. I am installing a after market transmission temp gauge. The manual says there is a tap in the trans. there is a plug about one inch from the filter, would someone know if this plug is where to put the sensor?
Thank you

tomair, I expect that someone here will be able to offer you some input on your question but many of us have accomplished this task by using a device called a Scan Gauge II. it just plugs into the OBDII plug and it directly reads the tranny temp that the ECM sees. No fuss no muss.

I don't see anything that says that the Scan Gauge II reads tranny temps. Is this a new feature?

The tranny temp is part of the Scan Gauge II x-gauge and you must input the correct code. It does not work on the 6 speed trans. Does anyone know off the top of their head the size of the trans cooling lines, 1/2 or 5/8 on the Allison 6 speed.

Oemy's programed my unit, also set it up for the Toad. Great service before and after the sale.
Works great and supplies piece of mind. Seeing the Load in percent form of the engine is also a great feature.

the x gauge codes are from a pdf file: inputting the codes imo is a 2 person job and can be a pita.
http://www.scangauge.com/support/pdfs/XGAUGE.pdf
if you buy your sc2 from oemy, he will have already input all the x gauge codes pertinent to your moho.

Let point out a few differences between the 2.
I have buddy that has one and he has sent his back 3 times for programming for the 6 sp tranny temp.... it does not work either.
It only shows 2 gauges and SG II does 4.
It costs about $70 more.
Unless you leave unmounted it's not transportable. IE - you need to punch a hole in you dash.
Not sure if it does fuel calculations like SG II.
SG II has the ability to send a command to the ECM for real time testing.

I have had mine (The AeroForce gauge) for 2 years and love it. Yes I mounted it in the dash because thats what I wanted to do> It looks good and has saved my bacon when I lost oil pressure due to a pump malfunction. I wish I could take it with me when I move up to a Freightliner chassie in a few months.
I am sorry the picture is slightly out of focus but I was driving. The upper numbers ar collant and the lower are set for the trans temp (each can be set via menu for 28 different paramaters).
