How do I determine the type of fluid in my Allsion Transmission? 2002 Mntn Aire. Just turned 29,000 care-free miles. Should it be changed?

bdaball, you most likely have a near 50/50 mix of TranSynd and Dextron III in your Allison tranny. To verify, call Workhorse (1-877-946-7731). They will look up the records of your chassis per the VIN number. I had the same situtation on my '05 Workhorse chassis. Per Allison recommendations, a two drain & fill of TranSynd fluid with new spin on filter each change. The tranny will run cooler with no fluid change, for another 150,000 miles or 48 months (which ever comes first). Hope you changed the spin on filter at the 5,000 mile service (WCC part #29539579).

You have 100% Dextron III in your transmission.
