I want to do a tranny fluid/filter change so I am trying to find out if my Allison was equipped with Transynd or Dexron III. I know my chassis was built in 05 but not sure when. I believe WH started equipping them with Transynd in April of 05. My VIN is 5B4MP67G453408516.
Thanks -- Frank O.

Frank, your chassis was built March 17, 2005, so it originally had Dex III. However, since THAT product has been de-licensed by GM, you are not likely to find any. Regardless, TranSynd is the way to go-your tranny will love you for switching to it. Don't forget to reuse the magnet when you remove the old filter.
Check your PM because I've sent you lots more info on your chassis. ED

Thanks Ed, that is the info I was looking for. I did read the "Mr. Transynd" thread. All I have to do is find Transynd.

Just see if you can find any TES-295 fluid.

Hello Frank, how you doing? My 04 has Transynd in it and I know that you can buy it at an Allison dealer. Expensive, but well worth it. I know from experience. I bought a couple of gallons sometime ago at an Allison dealer in Knoxville. Picked up a couple of spin on control main filters too!
How's the weather out there Denver way...dried out has it?
Bob

I paid a little over $32 a gallon last year at the local Allison dealer. Well worth it for the trans life and longer change intervals.

You can use the Mobil Delvac ATF Fluid also. It is a little cheaper, and it is an approved product by Allyson.

Thanks for all the input. I will do a search next week for one of the brands mentioned. I think I read that I will need about 15 quarts for the initial change. Does that sound about right?
Bob,
We are getting lots of afternoon downpours from a monsoon flow coming from the southwest. Kind of unusual to get the amount of rain we are having this summer. At least it will keep the fire season at bay. Refinished my deck only to have it rained upon. I am not sure if I will have to redo it.
I want to get the tranny fluid changed and the oil changed before we head out for a week in the mtns.
Thanks again for the help -- Frank O.

Frank, Too much fluid. You need to buy 3 gallons or 12 quarts. The pan off refill capacity is 10.3 Quarts. Remember to change the control filter (external spin-on) with each change and retain the magnet ring on the top of the filter.
I used a empty compound bucket to catch the drained fluid.
Fill the bucket with water 1 gallon at a time and mark off with a magic marker the graduations 1 gallon at a time for the 1st 3 gallons. Mark off by quart the last gallon.
Drain the fluid and add exactly the same amount of fluid as came out, run the engine up to operating temperature, in park (obviously) check the fluid. You may have pre-filled your control filter but add that fluid as well.
You are going to need a funnel with a long flexible hose. The process can be a little slow so be patient. Add all the fluid before starting the engine.
Snap the lid onto of the bucket and take it to the recycling center. No fuss.

So why is this trans synd so good for the xmsn? Is it really worth the expense? I,m due the ist fluid chg in 10000 miles. I did have one xmsn issue with a big bang pror to shifting into overdrive on the level . Xmsn failure light came on and went into limp mode. Went to campground for 3 days fired it up no lights and drove home issue free. I removed the filter and inspected the magnet, just gray paste on the magnet and no chunks in the filter. So if I put the this new fluid in it at the scheduled chg will all be well lol Jim Athol Id.

My endorsement for TES-295 fluid is unquestionable. Don't leave home without it!
