I have been quoted a price of $15.88 a quart for Transynd transmission fluid. This seems to be high. What is the going rate for a quart of Transynd? Was thinking about having the trans. serviced with Transynd when I have the Ultrapower done next week, but at over $600, I think I'll wait. Rick

Last summer, we had the tranny flushed, serviced and ATF replaced with Transynd at Detroit Diesel in Redmond, OR for less than $300. Detroit Diesel is an authorized Allison facility and has the proper equipment to flush an Allison transmission. They have service centers all over the place, perhaps one near you.

I know thing change, but when I had mine done DETROIT-ALLISON, Seattle WA.
they did not recommend the power flush. They wanted you to change it twice.
Which I did the second time, $32.00 a gal. 7or 8 dollars filter. Now they
will let you use other SYN. See what you can get AMBSOIL for. TENN.

YOSIMITEBOB, I told you things change,as it dont say this in my 02 book
and I dont know when they changed it. But I questioned it when they said
you got to use TRANSYN to maintain yur warranty! If thats the case dont
they have to GIVE us the whatever to keep the warranty in effect.
Something to do with MOSS & WHATEVER ACT???

Anyway go to www.allisontransmission.com then look for a TES 295 APROVAL
numbers. The two I recognized wa s B.P. and MOBIL DELVAC, But if ithas
TES295 its good to go. Have been told that AMBSOIL has the goat head. TENN.

It would appear that Allison has expanded their approved list somewhat, but I don't see Amsoil synthetic trans fluid listed.

Here is their list:

AN-011001, Castrol Heavy Duty Lubricants, TranSynd

AN-031002, BP Autran, Syn 295

AN-031003, Cognis Corporation, Emgard 2805

AN-031004, International Truck & Engine Company, Fleetrite Synthetic ATF

AN-051005, ExxonMobil Lubricants and Petroleum Specialties Company, Mobil Delvac Synthetic ATF

I just completed the Transmission change-over to Amsoil Torque Drive Synthetic. Cost was $101.40 for 4 Gallons (20 Qts) (4 Gallons per Case)
Single Gallon Cost $ 26.60 (4 qts).

My local Allison shop wanted to do the same 2 time drain and fill, at $325.00 each==$650.oo.
Do the Math, I did it myself. You can get Allison spin on filters from a number of suppliers.
I paid about $12.50 each.

Tenn.Vol., TES-295 is a specification developed and written by Allison. Torque Drive by Amsoil is probably as good as anything Allison has approved and better than most, but, it still has not been approved by Allison. Amsoil posts on its website and prints on its literature that it is recommended for applications where TES-295 is required. I refer you to their website, http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/atd.aspx where this is explained.

B-T-W, I am going to use Amsoil's product because I think it is better. My opinion.

I agree with you. However, I don't want to fight the fact that it is not approved by Allison as yet. That is a problem between companies. But until my warranty is over I'll go with what Allison approves.

What's the advantage of going to synthetic trans fluid? I've got 40k on mine now, changed trans fluid at 25k and still going strong. No problems (at least with the trans).

In Allison's case they are saying that you must use Transynd or TES-295 equivalent fluid to maintain their warranty schedule.

Beginning with VIN# 409091 there is a 5 year 200,000 mile warranty on both the 1000MH and the 2100MH 6-Speed transmissions and yes you do need to use "TES-295" fluid in order to maintain the warranty. Since there are numerous vendors that compete in this market, Allison's stipulation is outside the bounds of Magnuson Moss.

Now about all of this, Amsoil did not receive a TES-295 rating from Allison so if you have a 6-speed Allison use the TES-295. I don't think we want to test that 5yr/200K warranty.

If you have a pre-6-speed Allison knock yourself out and go for the Amsoil. Torque Shift I understand exceeds the TES-295 standard and as tested Amsoil has fewer impurities in the fluid.

Warranty or not if you have the fluid in your transmission that is the major component of the 5yr/200K mile warranty then I would say that you are where you need to be.

I have an appointment at the Ocala Detroit Diesel/Allison shop on Friday for a Transyn change over. I have an ~$200 price quote in an email from DD/Allison Ocala.

I'll post the full price on Saturday.

Tom
